Engineering Manager - Unannounced Project

Scopely is looking for an Engineering Manager to join an unannounced project team within our MAX Division, working hybrid from our US or Mexico City hubs, or remotely within the US or Canada.

What You Will Do
- Lead & Guide: Lead and mentor a skilled engineering team, providing the direction and support needed to navigate the challenges of game development. Your leadership will be key in turning creative ideas into a polished final product
- Optimize Processes: Oversee and refine our development processes, ensuring that everything from sprint planning to code reviews runs efficiently—so we can focus on creating an exceptional game
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with designers, product managers, and other key stakeholders to align our engineering efforts with the project’s creative goals and technical roadmap, ensuring that our engineering plans support the broader creative and business objectives
- Cultivate Growth: Regularly assess team performance, offering feedback and coaching to help each engineer grow and excel. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining a positive, productive, and creatively charged team environment
- Resource Management: Ensure that your team has the tools, resources, and training they need to succeed. Anticipate challenges and proactively address them to keep the team on track
- Open Communication: Keep senior management informed with clear and concise updates on progress, challenges, and strategies for success. Your communication will help maintain alignment and momentum across the project
- Risk Mitigation: Identify potential risks early and work with your team to develop effective strategies to overcome them. Your problem-solving skills will help keep the project moving forward
What We’re Looking For
- Management Experience: Exemplified experience leading engineering teams, ideally within the mobile gaming industry. A track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within scope
- Technical Background: Solid understanding of software development processes and methodologies, with experience in Unity and C#. Ability to guide and support the team in making technical decisions that align with team goals
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Agile Methodology Expertise: Experience leading teams using Agile methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospective meetings
- Strategic Thinker: Ability to align team efforts with broader business goals and contribute to long-term planning and decision-making
- People Development: Passion for mentoring and developing engineers, with a focus on encouraging a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture
- Performance Management: Experience in setting clear performance expectations, conducting evaluations, and implementing improvement plans
Bonus Points
- Live Ops Experience: You have hands-on experience with live operation of games, including running and deploying updates, user retention strategies, monitoring player feedback, and responding to real-time issues. Your insights help ensure a smooth and engaging experience for players long after launch
- Mobile Game Optimization: You’re skilled in optimizing mobile games to ensure they run efficiently across a variety of devices. You have experience with performance tuning, memory management, and ensuring minimal load times, crafting a magnificent experience for all players
For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY and WA, the annual salary range is $134,000 - $198,000 plus equity, bonus and benefits including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time-off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
