Engineering Manager, Economy Fraud

The Fraud team works cross-functionally with Product, Data Science and Machine Learning to combat fraudulent activities and nefarious behaviors in Roblox’s economies. Come join us in our mission to secure our platform through investments in detecting, preventing and investigating fraud!

As an Engineering Manager - Fraud you will be responsible for the safety and security of all transactions for real world money and virtual currency at Roblox. Delivering long term solutions to address malicious and friendly fraud, as well as preventing money transfers and laundering schemes. We register millions of transactions a day and require scalable and robust systems to monitor all activity real time and make data driven decisions to approve or deny transactions.

Here are a few things we will work on:

• Improving real and virtual money fraud prevention by creating transaction and user level scoring systems. Powered by customizable models, supported with Machine Learning optimizations.
• Securing virtual economy from fraud vectors aiming to abuse our platform. Providing transaction level decisions based on available data in a scalable fashion, serving millions of requests every day.
• Implement tools for real time visibility into suspicious activity, tracking trends and adapting systems to new threats.
• Improve internal processes and tools for maximizing our effectiveness in automatic punishments for violations.

You Are:

• A leader with a proven track record of strong people management skills and an ability to hire and grow a talented team of engineers
• Able to contribute to architecture and implementation discussions across platforms (backend, mobile, console)
• Experienced, with 2+ years in an engineering management role and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field
• Effective at driving projects and comfortable getting your hands dirty when needed
• Well-versed in backend development with modern OO architectures, scalable containerized systems and microservices, using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Nomad, .NETCore, SpringMVC, Express, Rails or Flask
• Setting high engineering standards on writing clear, readable, testable, modular, and monitored code
• Passionate about working on a large scale, consumer-facing mobile and web applications
• Collaborative with excellent communication skills and follow-through.
• Organized and analytical, with the ability to make informed and independent decisions
• Data-driven, focused to deliver quality metrics and monitoring.

You Will:

• Develop team Roadmap, charter and vision. Own and deliver complex technical projects from the planning stage through execution.
• Work cross-functionally with Product and Data Science to proactively identify and estimate product opportunities, promote data-driven decision-making.
• Provide guidance on architecture and design, and define processes for launching products and features.
• Hire and provide mentoring to both junior and senior engineers in their progress on business and personal career goals.
• Direct your team to create comprehensive fraud dashboards and to track and visualize key metrics for quality and team performance.
