Engineering Manager, Community Development Team

We are looking for a Software Development Lead to guide and inspire our Community Development team. The Community team believes that Rec Room is a great place to make friends, have a blast hanging out with those friends, and do it all again. In this role you will be given the freedom and responsibility to make that happen across our user base. As a Software Development Lead, you are tasked with leading the engineering effort and ensuring its productivity.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers across a wide variety of features and systems, while also writing your own production-ready code
- Guide the development and maintenance of systems and features that bring players together
- Use data to ascertain player needs
- Advocate for users and the type of community we want to foster
- Manage while providing guidance and mentorship in both technical and soft skills
- Own the team's productivity and metrics
- Work with Tech Leads, Program Managers, and Designers to plan the team's road map
- Manage the team's release schedule and issue escalation
- Wrangle cross-team dependencies
WE ARE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH:
- 5+ years of professional development experience
- 2+ years of experience managing and leading teams of Software Engineers
- Experience with Unity, Unreal, or a similar game engine
- Experience writing production distributed systems or cloud services
- A desire to advocate for players and their needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
BONUS POINTS IF YOU ALSO HAVE:
- Experience growing teams, especially at startups
- Experience working on a live online service
- Full stack development experience
- Experience with metrics/telemetry
- Experience with and passion for design
COMPANY INFO TO KNOW:
The base pay range for this position is $160,000 - 210,000 per year; however, the base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, location, skills, and experience. Stock options and, in some cases, a sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. We also offer a full slate of benefits, including flexible vacation, medical, dental vision, life and disability coverage, long-term care insurance, FSA, commuter benefits, a 401(k) plan with company match, and a parental leave program. We also offer some not-so-standard benefits, including equipment, family, and pet care stipends.
