Job Overview:
The Engineering Director will be responsible for the management and development of the project's engineering teams, focusing on people management, orchestration, and collaboration with other departments. This role will work closely with the Technical Director, senior leadership, designers, artists, producers, QA and programmers to align engineering efforts with the technical vision and strategy while providing strong leadership and support to engineering staff.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Hold regular 1-on-1 meetings with engineers on the project, participating in team composition and identifying the team's technical needs.
- Assist in coaching, performance reviews, and addressing performance issues of hired engineers, escalating issues and recommending solutions to the Studio Technical Director.
- Coordinate with designers, artists, producers, and other programmers in the implementation of the project.
- Communicate effectively with the Executive Producer and directors of Art, Design and QA.
- Implement and maintain performance metrics to track engineering team success, using data-driven insights to inform decision-making and drive improvement.
- Manage communication between engineering teams and other departments, ensuring seamless collaboration and timely project updates.
- Mentor and develop technical staff, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- Engineering Director has the authority to overrule hiring decisions if a candidate is deemed unsuitable or potentially detrimental to the company.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
- A passion for developing next gen games!
- 5+ years previous work experience in a game programming role
- 2+ years previous work experience in a leadership role (proven mentor and lead)
- Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented programming
- Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine 4/5, Radiant or Unity
- Experience with multi-threaded programming
- Experience with network (multiplayer) programming
- Ability to visualize 3D domains and solutions
- Good foundation of 3D math concepts and algorithms
- High interest in and motivation to learn new technologies, languages, engines, algorithms or platform technologies
- Ability to offer technical expertise, solution architecture guidance and mentoring (answering questions, offering advice, guidance) to developers on same or related projects.
- Ability to communicate well and work across departments in a professional manner
