Editorial Assistant - Hybrid/Flexible

For 30 years we’ve been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film and mo-cap studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

Rebellion Publishing is home to 2000 AD and Judge Dredd as well as the Treasury of British Comics, over 100 years of comic book history stored in our on-site archive. On the fiction side is Solaris, an award-winning publisher of science fiction, fantasy and horror with authors including Yoon Ha Lee, Derek Künsken, Premee Mohamed and Thilde Kold Holdt.

We are on the lookout for an engaged, proactive, and efficient Editorial Assistant to join the Fiction and Graphic Novel teams at Rebellion Publishing.

We are looking for someone who is inquisitive with a love of reading and genre fiction and comics, able to juggle a whole range of tasks and priorities to deadline and in so doing, make a tangible difference to the efficiency of the department.

As Editorial Assistant, you will provide administrative and editorial support to the Fiction and Graphic Novel editorial teams. There will be regular opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their editorial skills, working on edits alongside the editors, assisting with creative briefs for books, and writing cover copy and AI sheets. This role requires regular liaison with writers, agents, artists, and other departments, so good time management and a can-do attitude are essential.

If you’re a highly organised multi-tasker who is quick to learn and respond to a variety of demands, and you enjoy making everything and everyone around you run more efficiently, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities

• Keeping on top of the critical path for our titles prompting editors for materials
• Diary management, arranging meetings, taking minutes
• Populating and updating our title database
• Proof-reading cover copy, catalogue copy, AIs
• Preparing prelims and titles for the production process
• E-book editorial checks
• Organizing and creating back ads
• General administrative duties such as handling invoices, managing mailings, filing, etc
• Sending out book proofs and contractual authors’ copies
• Keeping track of how our books appear online, how keywords are used and updating online copy as needed

Requirements

• Previous work experience in a publishing environment would be advantageous
• Solid administrative & organisation experience
• Familiar with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
• A passion for comics, science-fiction, fantasy, and horror fiction
