EU Communications Lead

Reporting to the head of international communications based in the US, this newly created role will oversee the function’s expansion to the European region. In particular, this regional communications lead will drive proactive communications programs in France, Germany and the UK to tell local stories of how Discord is a fun and unique platform where people can hang out and talk with their friends and communities. You will also work with European counterparts in marketing, community, customer service, and more, to build our brand awareness, increase usage, and grow revenue across the region. You are excited to build Discord’s first regional communications program outside of the US, and have the ability to strategize as well as do hands-on work in a dynamic environment.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the communications strategy and planning for the European region as well as execute proactive communications campaigns in France, Germany and the UK
- Shape our corporate, consumer and product narratives in key European markets, while bringing regional perspective to global communications initiatives
- Navigate diverse media landscapes and cultural nuances across Europe, while collaborating with our global communications team based in the US
- Build/manage a network of PR agency partners across the region (with the longer term goal to build our communications team in Europe) to support regional business goals
- Advise the communications leadership team and cross-functional partners in Europe on thought leadership and crisis management
- Contribute to our international communications framework and processes, including messaging development, competitive benchmarking, reporting and analyses
What you should have
- A passion for Discord and our mission
- 10+ years of work experience (combination of in-house or agency) building and scaling corporate, consumer, and product communications initiatives in key European markets
- 4+ years experience with managing agency partners and/or building teams in multiple markets across Europe
- Strong background in consumer technology and/or emerging categories, with established regional/local media relationships in key European markets
- Operate with empathy in a hybrid, collaborative and fast-paced environment with colleagues in various time zones
- Effective prioritization when it comes to project management, navigating time-sensitive projects while maintaining quality on other important workstreams
Bonus Points
- An understanding of and/or experience using Discord
- Experience in EU policy and regulation for consumer Internet services
- Beyond fluency in English, proficiency in additional European languages
