Documentation Lead, Platforms

The opportunity
Join Unity’s global Documentation team and help us take our award-winning docs to the next level for millions of Unity users worldwide. We’re looking for an experienced documentation lead or a technical writer ready to take the next step into a leadership role. You’ll need passion and drive, a technical aptitude, and excellent writing and editing skills.
Unity’s growing Platforms Documentation team is distributed across several UK sites and works with colleagues across the world. The team plans, writes, and maintains the documentation for using Unity on different platforms, such as consoles or mobile devices.
You’ll join a diverse group of technical writers, content managers and information architects working across countries and timezones to support Unity’s passionate community of creators.
We are open to this role being based in Brighton, Stratford or remotely in the UK.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead a team of writers, and contribute as a senior technical writer
- Prioritise work, balance workload across the team, and identify resource and tooling requirements based on user needs
- Empower and mentor writers to be autonomous and self-driven
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the company to deliver the right content to the right user at the right time
- Understand user needs within Platforms, and ensure this is reflected in the overall documentation vision and strategy
- Help recruit, support and develop technical writers and supporting roles
- Champion the role and importance of documentation within the organization and community
What we’re looking for
- Experience leading a team of technical writers, content managers, and/or editors
- Strong analytical skills and excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience writing and publishing different types of user-facing documentation such as API guides, programmer guides, installation guides, and user manuals for an international audience
- Impeccable standard of written and spoken English
- Structured and autonomous approach to working, with experience delivering results within tight deadlines
You might also have
- Experience producing documentation using Markdown, Flare, XML, or XMLDoc
- Solid understanding of source control tools (github, Mercurial) and techniques
- Experience using issue trackers such as JIRA to track project tasks
- Knowledge or experience of programming languages, especially C#
- Comfortable making presentations, or guiding developers and technical writers
