Your Mission
As Director, Learning & Development Core Development Programs you will play a pivotal role in changing the game in developing talent at Activision, Blizzard and King! We are looking for the right person to be an integral part in this new team’s long-term success! In this role you will own the end-to-end design, implementation, and scaling of blended training programs focused on providing employees and leaders across Activision, Blizzard and King with the development they need to be successful. You will be responsible for standing up and leading a center of excellence team of instructional design specialists, focused on the development needs of employees across our global network of game studios. Examples may include, but are not limited to: career development labs, manager/leadership programming, feedback/yearly performance training, onboarding, and upskill/reskill development. You’ll work closely with company, studio and business unit executives, leaders and subject matter experts, in addition to industry-leading external partners, to create innovative curriculum that can be scaled globally but activated locally within business teams. You will also be responsible for b uilding and maintaining relationships with targeted stakeholder groups across multiple brands and studios and partnering with peers to customize centrally managed content to meet local team’s individual development needs. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively lead a team focused on driving a complex, multi-tiered curriculum strategy centered in adult learning theory & practice and experiential, iterative design, while balancing providing best-in-class learning solutions at scale.
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development:
- In collaboration with the Head of Learning and Development and business leadership, build curriculum to support manager and leadership development at scale across Activision, Blizzard and King.
- Drive the end-to-end design and development of core programming curriculum across multiple modalities including but not limited to onboarding, manager & leadership development, career development, feedback and performance management and coaching.
- Develop curriculum strategy that aligns with the overarching L&D and business strategy / objectives while also delivering on results through a multi-year curriculum roadmaps across different tracks and expertise domains across all aspects of game development.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders (i.e., talent teams, people analytics, people experience, etc.) to deliver meaningful, cross-functional onboarding training across the enterprise.
- Partner with curriculum managers across our business units and teams to develop curriculum that can be scaled within their existing programs with optionality to customize.
- Collaborate with peer learning teams (DE&I, Compliance, etc.) to create cross-functional learning experiences that make sense for employees across the employee lifecycle.
Instructional Design Excellence
- Stand up a team of instructional design excellence focused on providing best-in-class expertise in the end to end ADDIE process.
- Create a playbook of templates for instructional design and development which can be leveraged by internal teams for light design and development within their functional teams.
- Consult and partner with internal learning and development partners to advise on best practices when developing training materials.
Team Management:
- Ability to successfully lead a team of learning and development professionals
- Define, identify and hire learning and development consultants or internal resources to support the build and activation of core programming and iterations as necessary
- Proven ability to both manage and lead employees in a virtual/remote work environment effectively.
Business Partnership:
- Align to the needs and scale of multiple employee populations, including (but not limited to) our game development studios, engineering teams and supporting business teams across Activision, Blizzard and King globally.
- Build relationships across multiple employee populations, including (but not limited to) executive and C-level leadership within designated business teams.
- In collaboration with the Head of Learning and Development, establish yourself as a key point of contact for training design across the global enterprise.
- Work closely with business partnership team members to create localized content aligned to ongoing training needs analysis.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders (i.e., talent teams, people analytics, tech teams, etc.) to design and develop meaningful, cross-functional training that is scalable across the enterprise.
Vendor Management
- Identify and secure Learning and Development vendor partners responsible for delivering large scale programs, as well as monitor partner performance and attainment of contracted goals and outcomes in alignment with business team needs.
- In partnership with selected vendors, design learning and development programming, in addition to leading the customization of blended learning options to support independent, classroom, and team-based instruction
- Partner with center-led internal learning and development team to customize and scale vendor offerings to each business unit and team within the global organization.
Learning and Development Measurement:
- Execute on measurement targets for strategic priorities and initiatives that support immediate and long-term business objectives of teams across designated business teams.
- Partner across the learning and development team to develop a learning and development measurement strategy that measures the value of all content within our business teams.
- Direct program effectiveness by executing on activation strategies to gauge participant’s performance during key learning program, while also identifying (and improving) program inconsistencies and deficiencies
- Establish tracking and measurement approach, and govern progress to report status to business unit leaders
- When necessary, complete executive updates and program report outs of learning & development health within designated business teams.
- Create annual reports summarizing impact and progress, as well as recommend solutions to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness, potential learning gaps and anticipated needs
Success Factors
- Partner with external vendors to develop Manager/Leadership development programing customized to the specific business teams we support.
- Cultivate strong relationships across designated business units and L&D teams; becoming the key point of contact for learning design & development.
- Create a best-in-class instructional design center of excellence focused on developing practical tools for learning and business partners to leverage.
- Lead a team focused on designing and developing core learning and development programing including onboarding, goal setting and year-end conversations, addressing peripheral leadership/learning needs as necessary.
Qualifications / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 8+ years professional experience design and developing training solutions; preferred in a corporate learning and development environment
- Proven expertise in scaling global learning and development programming; especially in a corporate learning and development environment
- Knowledge of upskilling and reskilling vendors and external partners
- Demonstrated experience presenting to executives and gaining alignment among multiple stakeholders on enterprise-wide initiatives
- Proven team leader; especially leading instructional design teams focused on manager or leadership development
- Expert in adult learning modalities, ADDIE, agile learning development and learning experience
- Strong project/program management, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex and global programs and curriculum, including project implementation, stakeholder management, and budget management
- Experience owning program strategy and presenting results to senior leadership
- Consistent track record of using data to measure learning effectiveness, identify insights, and make updates/improvements.
- Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced work environment while completing multiple priorities
- A bias toward action and creative problem solving in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous situations and across organizational boundaries
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (i.e., PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or Learning Experience Platforms
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) in related subject area, or relevant certifications
