PeopleFun is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to lead the building of our data infrastructure and pipelines and manage the data engineering team. This person will collaborate with data analysts and product managers to understand the needs of the team and design a flexible data infrastructure to meet current and potential future needs. This person will lead data engineers that will build a robust multi-sourced data pipeline into a central warehouse that supports scalability for multiple live games with continuously evolving data requirements over the lifecycle of each game. This person will also be responsible for leading development of ETL routines that provide data validation and maintain aggregated tables.
Responsibilities
- Lead the data engineering discipline
- Create and execute on a roadmap for the data engineering department to fulfill the data needs of the studio
- Design, develop, and maintain a flexible, robust, scalable data infrastructure
- Work closely with the product managers and data analysts to implement and improve data models that are used by business intelligence tools
- Design, build, and maintain efficient and reliable data pipelines across several platforms/environments
- Use your past experience to identify gaps and issues in the existing data pipeline
- Assess the cost of the data infrastructure and implement and maintain a cost efficient solution that meets the needs of the studio
- Work with external data providers/sources to integrate the data into the studio's internal data warehouse
- Implement new requests from Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and Product Managers to fulfill their data needs
- Prioritize requests from multiple stakeholders and manage expectations on deliverable scope and schedule
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (graduate degree preferred) in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, or other related fields with focus on quantitative analysis or engineering
- 5+ years' experience in the data engineering field
- Experience in data warehouse systems such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Vertica, Redshift
- BigQuery experience is strongly preferred
- Extensive experience in SQL, Python, and other scripting languages used for data engineering
- Extensive experience in developing and maintaining ETL processes that are robust, scalable, flexible
- Extensive experience in validating and debugging data to ensure high quality data for the rest of the team to use
- Experience working with external data providers/sources via API, raw data drops, and other protocols
- Experience working with both client-side data and server-side data sources
- Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau
- Excellent attention to detail and strong desire to iterate and improve on processes
- Strong critical thinking and communications skills
- Self-motivated team player that brings excitement and enthusiasm to work each day
- Familiarity with the mobile games and video games industry is a plus
