Open to Long-Term Remote For U.S.-Based Candidates
Level Ex is seeking a Director, Software Engineering to join our team. You'll be responsible for managing and scaling our engineering team, by advising, inspiring, building, and developing the engineering talent to deliver exceptional products for our clients and players. As a critical member of our studio management, you will work closely with other department heads to ensure high quality and on-time delivery of projects.
What You'll Do
- Report directly to Level Ex's CTO, Andrew Glaister, you will inspire our engineering team to take ambitious and creative approaches to address unsolved technical problems
- Collaborate on evolving milestones and management goals for our growing engineering team
- Unleash the toolbox of video game software dev to build games efficiently and at high quality
- Employ agile best practices to keep engineers focused on the problem at hand
- Work collaboratively across disciplines (game design, art, medical, production) to solve problems in an entirely new genre of medical games.
- Develop relationships with the engineers to understand their career goals and aspirations
- Boost communication and facilitate feedback between engineers and engineering leads
- Provide coaching and counseling through mentoring and one-on-one meetings with engineers and engineering leads
- Organize performance reviews and collaborate with engineering leadership for professional career growth for team members
- Leverage video game engineering best practices to improve our engineering processes and methodologies
- Partner with our product team to drive long-term roadmaps from ideation to execution, and onward through continuous iteration
- Collaborate with various teams across the company including production, design, medical, art, and sales
- Proactively identify, prioritize, triage, and resolve development issues as they arise, in consultation with other department leads
- Foster a collaborative culture with an emphasis on teamwork, inclusion, diversity, and creative innovation
- Assist the engineering leadership and talent team with recruitment to help attract, interview, hire, and onboard new engineers
What You'll Bring
Your Background
- Passionate about empowering teams and shipping products
- Minimum of 15+ years in video game software engineering including cross related experience with product management and high-level architecture
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineers
- Experience managing video game engineering teams of 10+ people
- Experience with Agile development: specifically in its application to game development
- Proficiency in Unity3D or Unreal Engine
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Deep familiarity with game development best practices: including architecture, automation, tooling, and optimization
- An enjoyment and successful track record of working collaboratively with Product, Art, Creative, Production to ensure high quality and on-time delivery
- Experience building technically impressive games that target Windows and mobile platforms
- Capability of working in multiple time zones as part of a growing distributed team that embraces remote work
- Approachable, creating a welcoming environment for individuals to share ideas and implement best practices
- Experience with game projects of varying sizes: from multi-week to multi-year

- Depth in key areas of game development: 3D graphics, physics, and networking
- Experience with building, and deploying web technologies and services
- Master's degree in Computer Science
