Summary:
Over the past decade, Age of Learning has quietly become a behemoth in the education space. As a Tech-Unicorn with a seasoned leadership team, Age of Learning is well-positioned to not only drive continued growth for its flagship product, ABCmouse, but also the expanded portfolio of new products, including Adventure Academy, English Language Learning, and the innovative adaptive learning products My Math Academy and My Reading Academy.
As the company continues to expand, we are searching for an influential, experienced, and highly collaborative Director, International Business Development & Partnerships, reporting to the SVP, Global Business Development & Partnerships. This person will primarily source, establish, and support new partnerships and secure distribution channels for our compelling portfolio of products and IP, expanding our reach, building awareness & affinity with our core demographic, and driving customer acquisition, revenue, and overall customer lifetime value. In partnership with our leadership team, you will lead the process from initiation to the close of commercial and sales opportunities that significantly accelerate Age of Learning's expansion into global markets and fulfill the company’s vision of educating children around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Create, secure support for, and then implement the business development strategies and tactics to drive substantial and rapid expansion outside of the U.S.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize key partner prospects, including market research, needs analysis, competitive positioning, and commercial attractiveness.
- Initiate partner discussions, pitch, and negotiate to secure highly valuable and sustainable commercial partnership agreements that continue through renewal and up-sell to maximize customer Lifetime Value.
- For new partnerships, lead the development of high growth business plans, consolidating well-considered operating assumptions, and adequate resource planning. Champion and secure approval for business plans in collaboration with Strategy and other stakeholders.
- Establish and manage a Development Pipeline covering multiple industry verticals, countries, and partnerships. Set bold yet achievable revenue goals, metrics, and milestones. Track and provide regular reporting on progress and success.
- Partner with Legal to manage and review contractual agreements and legal risk, and partner with Finance to ensure business plan assumptions and forecasts are validated and supported.
- Work closely with existing operations teams (Product, Curriculum, Production, Globalization, and Marketing) to ensure new business plans to consider appropriate resources and implementation timeline assumptions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, commerce, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Master’s degree preferred.)
- 10+ years of experience in Business Development & Partnership roles, with a meaningful portion of that time spent working on International Business Development and deal-making.
- Measurable success driving commercial growth (sales & profitability), distribution & reach, and broad strategic & brand impact.
- Respected reputation for securing valuable distribution partnerships with digital platforms and direct-to-consumer subscription-based services.
- Knowledgeable about international partner landscape with existing contacts or willingness to establish new relationships quickly.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects, deadlines, and time zones while based in the U.S. as dictated by various international priorities and initiatives.
- Openness to international travel once in-person client meetings resume.
- Global mindset: proven success and excitement working across multiple territories, cultures, and languages. Some experience living and working in global markets preferred.
- Growth mindset: ability to adapt to uncertainty, bring focus in complexity, and be flexible in fast-changing environments.
- Ability and appetite to influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure buy-in and successful outcomes.
- Demonstrated success working and negotiating with large-scale corporations and proven track record of effectively driving large-scale initiatives.
- Strong business acumen and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain influential, professional relationships with internal stakeholders, key business partners, and customers positively impacting business growth.
