Jam City is seeking a Director, Engineering to support and drive the technical needs of our Burbank Studio. The Director, Engineering will solve technical challenges, help ship new games, live-operate existing games, and mentor game Engineers. He or she has the agility to manage projects on their own and understand how to succeed in an evolving, data driven company. The candidate also has the people skills to work smoothly and communicate effectively with Producers, Designers, Artists, and Product Managers at all levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reporting directly to the General Manager, this individual will lead the studio’s engineering organization.
- Creates and oversees the execution of technical strategies, policies and operating plans for the studio.
- Oversees the design and implementation of services used by millions of players through mobile applications.
- Identify problems, investigate new approaches and provide technical solutions.
- Continually tracks new trends in game and platform technology.
- Makes recommendations to studio leadership for new technology solutions to be considered.
- Reviews new requirements for platforms and software used (iOS, Google, Unity, etc) and makes recommendations when needed.
- Vet internal (studio, Jam City) and external software options to solve high level technical challenges.
- Studio liaison to Jam City central technology.
- Investigate central tech service/tool offerings against studio strategy and lead the game teams’ on integration.
- Provide internal operational support within functional areas and collaborate across departments within the studio.
- Responsible for staffing needs within the Engineering Department for the Studio.
- Sets objectives for direct reports and larger Engineering Department.
- Ensures the ongoing development of the Engineering team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 10+ years of game industry experience with a focus on shipping and live operating free-to-play mobile games.
- 10+ years of software development experience with strong OO skills and a deep familiarity with Unity, C#.
- 5+ years leading and growing high functioning teams.
- Solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, computational complexity theory, and test driven development.
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, or related field.
- Solution-oriented collaborator; able to influence up, down and across organizations.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team dynamic with humility, curiosity and a sense of humor.
- Passion for games.
- Love of Disney & Pixar a plus.
