Motive Montreal is looking for an Experience Design Director to join us in the early stages of an exciting new project. In this role you report into the Creative Director and will be instrumental in defining the Experience Design vision for our game.
Working in close collaboration with user research, game design, art, and other key stakeholders, you will represent the end users at the table, and focus on every aspect that affects their experience, from removing friction and frustration, to making sure game mechanics are understandable.
You will also manage a team of UX and UI designers.
What you'll do :
- Drive and oversee UX and UI guidelines, design principles and best practices such as heuristic evaluations/usability standards, archetype development, experience journey maps, prototyping, and user testing
- Build highly collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, game designers, product managers, art directors, and brand partners to set design priorities and find balanced solutions for player, business, and technical goals
- Work closely with the Gameplay Director and Art Director to find UX/UI solutions which balance aesthetic and mechanical demands while staying focused on the perspective of the end user
- Guide user research studies and the development and implementation of KPIs to measure performance data and validate solutions in collaboration with the UX Research teams.
- Lead teams in framing and solving hard problems rooted in player data (quantitative and qualitative)
- Build a deep understanding of our players and products to develop a holistic view, then drive design strategy and identify key areas of impact to enhance the player experience
- Mentor junior UX/UI designers and other stakeholders on user-centered design principles and methodologies
Who you are :
- Degree in Interaction Design, Psychology, HCI, OR demonstrated proficiency in the field of user experience
- A portfolio of shipped products from ideation to release
- 5+ years leading and managing UX, UI or design teams
- Familiarity with advanced game engines like Unreal, Unity and others
- Fluency in best practices for interaction design, design thinking, as well as strong knowledge of UX principles and methodologies
- Understanding of user research methodologies and user data analysis (quantitative and qualitative)
- Ability to lead a team to effectively translate player data into design solutions and quickly iterate on them
- Ability to work and teach across multiple cross-functional product teams, moving effortlessly between smallest details and highest level strategy
- Efficient and effective at presenting and rationalizing design strategy and decisions to diverse audiences including executives, using these opportunities to educate and evangelize
