On being a Development Tester Team Lead at Ubisoft Toronto
You are responsible for managing a team of Development Testers. You will follow up on and validate the team’s work to ensure it is following QC plans.
The daily life of a Development Tester Team Lead at Ubisoft Toronto
- Manages the QC Development Testers and Assistant QC leads;
- Creates all test plans for game project;
- Work closely with assigned game and tools teams to identify areas to test and construct relevant test strategies;
- Provide clear reports on findings and communicate status to the project team highlighting areas of risk and ensuring these are followed up;
- Assigns daily tasks to QC team based on project and development needs;
- Identifies team risk and assesses time estimates on tasks;
- Works closely with QC Manager and a partner studio on QC plans;
- Updates QC plans regularly and shares this with the stakeholders;
- Frequent regular synch up with partner studio Lead QC (daily or weekly);
- Drive best practices throughout the QC Development Tester team;
- Ensure platform holder requirements are met by performing early investigation of planned implementation details and working with the development team to suggest changes required;
- Support development of junior QC Development Testers assisting in training them where necessary to best support the development team;
- Produce build/release notes and other core QA documentation for internal and external consumption;
- Act as key point of contact for external QA teams, driving the QA vision and ensuring resources needed are available.
What it takes to make it
- A minimum of 3 years games/software testing experience including responsibilities in a Senior or Lead role in games;
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and JIRA a must;
- Experience of console testing and submissions for game consoles;
- Understanding of patch and DLC mechanisms, tools and processes for current generation consoles;
- Experience of working alongside game development teams;
- Understanding of networking concepts and testing tools;
- Experience in programming/scripting a plus.
