Lead AWS Cloud Engineer

Our excellent in-house IT team is looking for a Lead AWS Cloud Engineer to join the team at Creative Assembly, a Game Development studio based in Horsham, West Sussex. In this role, you will be the technical hands-on Lead for our AWS cloud infrastructure, covering deployment, monitoring and security of all critical AWS services, ensuring best practice is adhered to.
Key Responsibilities
This role will be based in the IT & Live Services department at a Game Development studio and will be instrumental in leading and mentoring a team to build and manage our cloud infrastructure hosted on AWS. You will be key in developing frameworks and tools to automate and help accelerate all aspects of deployment, monitoring and security.
You will share your experience of working with reliable, secure, highly scalable AWS infrastructure, to provide a resilient and responsive online service for our significant player base.
In this role, you will be passionate about innovation and project management within the team and across the studio. As an experienced developer, you will share your expertise working with systems and truly bring the best out of your team.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
Essential
- Hands-on technical experience working with AWS cloud services
- Proven track record in large technical project delivery, leadership, and mentoring teams
- Excellent communication skills and excellent written and spoken English. You will be liaising with product owners, technical leads, developers and design teams
- Security; including patching and vulnerability management of AWS services and WAFs
- Linux expertise (Amazon Linux and Ubuntu running in AWS)
- Strong technical skills with at least one language (Python, Bash, JavaScript, etc)
- Understanding of costing aspects of AWS services
- Desire to always improve and follow best practice
Desirable
- Experience in Docker, Kubernetes, Microservices and Serverless
- Single sign-on (SSO) and federated access
- Setting up dashboards and monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Grafana, Datadog)
- Migrating legacy systems to AWS
- Understanding of the whole tech stack; from design to implementation to LiveOps. An appreciation of how tech decisions can impact and affect other areas of the business
- Assisting with recruiting and training new team members
- Awareness of CA games
