Design Manager

Job summary
Amazon Game Studios is seeking a Design Manager to join our team in sunny San Diego, CA. The design manager will work with the Creative Director to guide our design team in crafting captivating systems and experiences that drive exciting and dynamic gameplay for an unannounced massively multiplayer game.

You have a proven track record driving and communicating a clear, understandable game vision in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. You possess strong communication skills, production sensibilities, and are a partner to art, engineering, audio, and production. You have experience and passion for managing, supporting, and mentoring game designers. You have knowledge of game design theory and tools pipelines. You are able to work independently and are comfortable taking and providing direction. You’ll share your knowledge while working within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team of designers, artists, and programmers as you continue to develop your skill set by learning from your teammates.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
· Work closely with the Creative Director and leads to establish and drive the overall vision and direction for the game, driving awareness and understanding of the vision with all development departments.
· Be a champion for the player. Ensure our designs start with the player experience and work backwards to craft sensible, engaging gameplay.
· Work with all departments on the scheduling and integration of systems designs, as well as feature development goals and execution.
· Work closely with QA to ensure quality throughout the product lifecycle.
· Establish and maintain a collaborative, creative, and positive environment where your team members feel supported and empowered.
· Provide coaching and guidance for team members goals and career development.

Basic Qualifications

· 5+ years of game design experience in a senior or leadership role.
· Shipped 1+ AAA titles in a design leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with AAA multi-platform game production.
· Demonstrated ability to guide and inspire multi-discipline development teams.
· Excellent communication skills including the ability to convey complex and nuanced designs in simple terms.
· Leadership experience including conflict resolution, providing clear and actionable feedback, and maintaining a positive, professional development culture.
· Proven experience in a professional game production pipeline.
· Experience with MMO or GaaS design and production.
· Able to accept and give constructive criticism and maintain a professional attitude.
· Independently self-motivated, team player with excellent communication skills.
· Passionate gamer with knowledge of current commercial game titles.
· Has been a key contributor from prototype to polish.
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
