Level Designer

Rebellion Oxford is looking for a Level Designer – Applicants should be passionate about creating and implementing, compelling fun missions from a block out (white box) stage to completion. They should also have a genuine interest in playing games of all types.
We would like to see candidates with 1-2 years’ game industry design experience or 1 full development cycle however we would be open to also entry level or graduate applications with a strong portfolio of work. This role is full-time, based in-house at our Oxford headquarters. We can consider permanent or in-house contract employment but not freelance or agencies. You must be able to legally work in the UK.
Requirements
- Design and implementation of new levels using our in-house engine tools
- Implementation and development of existing design mechanics and missions/levels
- Work to a functional brief, within technical constraints
- Critically review the product at each development stage
- Alliteratively balance and fine tune game-play elements
- Ensure feedback is assessed and incorporated into the design where appropriate
- Understand and work within project requirements and constraints
- Work closely with other disciplines within the development team to resolve issues as they arise
- Pro-actively identify potential upcoming design problems and propose suitable solutions
Skills
- Strong working knowledge of game editors and visual scripting tools
- Good working knowledge of the technical restrictions and specifications for various game consoles
- Good understanding of game design fundamentals
- Responsive to deadlines and works well under pressure
- Good communication and documentation skills, able to accept and follow direction from concept/block out to final stages
- Collaborates productively within a multi-disciplined team environment, including artists and coders
- Able to work effectively with minimal levels of guidance, prioritising and scheduling your own work
- Resourceful, practical and self-critical thinker, self-motivated and organised
- An analytical approach to game play
- 3D modelling skills would be advantageous
