Your Mission
As the Social and Building Director , you will be the vision holder and owner of genre-defining social experiences on Blizzard’s upcoming survival game. You will drive project-wide accountability for multiple back-of-the-box features: ensuring that players can realize their dreams of in-world building and construction; and are able to engage with their settlements, each other, and their world, in meaningful and long-lasting ways. Together with a specialized design team under you, you will make the communities in this unannounced game feel alive, generative, and thriving.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work from home. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.
What you bring to the table:
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Defines and sets the strategic direction for the Building and Social vertical taking the best of the best of player social structures from games across the industry, homebrewing your own recipe for a healthy digital social community, and seeing that vision from pitch to implementation.
- Advocating for healthy social considerations across the wider spectrum of features, discussing and promoting designs that fuel bonding, collaboration, and relationship building.
- Taking the level of care typically reserved for swinging or shooting a weapon and applying that microscopic focus to the act of placing components of player-made structures and collaborative interaction.
- Championing the development of pipelines so that we can deliver compelling content to players frequently and at a high-quality bar while protecting the work-life balance of the teams delivering that content through both process and technology.
- Advocating for the player: ensuring that their social time in the product is one that is rich and safe; and ensuring that building is experienced as a simple and straightforward toolset rich with choice, progression, and expressiveness.
- Managing and driving a team of senior lead level designers to execute on the strategic vision
Minimum Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in a systems, social, building, or gameplay design role; or equivalent in work/education experience with at least 5 years experience leading and mentoring teams
- Shipped 1+ AAA title in a leadership or director-level position
- Experience leading cross-discipline teams in feature development
- Experience with AAA game engines such as Unreal, Unity, CryEngine, or Source
- Experience developing design concepts from conception to implementation in a clear, detailed manner
Extra Points
- Your work experience is in the triple-a space.
- Familiarity with programming and scripting languages such as C++, C#,
Blueprint, Lua, or JavaScript - A background in social design, psychology, or digital construction.
- Strong documentation philosophies and strategies to evangelize your designs
- Playing a variety of video game genres and titles.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $134,000.00 - $247,900.00 Annual. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
