Role Overview - Data Scientist
The Data Scientist role will work within SEGA’s HARDlight studio with a focus on mobile games. You’ll work closely with the game teams to produce actionable insights from data and machine learning models, provide ongoing analyses to assist live-ops and game leads, and ensure that the direction of ongoing development is backed up by metrics and behavioural data. You’ll be encouraged to take the initiative with analyses or Data Science products, to collaborate with other Data Scientists within SEGA of Europe’s studios, and to challenge assumptions and test hypotheses to help create the best experience for our players.
Responsibilities
- Actively own your relationships with the analytics team, game teams, and management, to frame better questions and track the right metrics
- Build, improve, interpret, and deploy predictive models to production using data from live games to identify players likely to spend, churn, or exhibit other behaviours of interest
- Design tests to be run on live games to provide data that can help validate and improve your models, and work with the live-ops and development teams to implement them
- Identify anomalies and trends in performance data that could warrant further analysis, and feed back to the game teams and the studio management as necessary
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of SQL, and proficient with either R or Python
- Experience with metrics-driven decision making and A/B testing
- Solid understanding and practical experience of using machine learning algorithms for interpretive and predictive modelling
- Excellent data reporting, visualisation and presentation skills (Tableau, Power Point, etc.)
- Passionate about videogames, and mobile games in particular
- A self-motivated individual with good organisational skills
- Able to work well in a fast-moving, creative development environment with members of all disciplines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Desirable
- An understanding of cloud platforms, such as AWS
- A clear understanding and experience of troubleshooting different types of data pipeline
- Free to Play / Paymium game design experience
