Data Scientist (Mid - Sr. Level)

The Product and Data Strategy (PDS) team has grown rapidly in recent years to leverage data, to shape key decisions, and to identify new opportunities. There are over 100 staff within the global PDS team, made up of multiple data fields.
We are looking to hire hard-working, versatile individuals who have excelled in previous roles and are looking for a new challenge in a dynamic and exciting environment.
Overview:
Data Scientists in the PDS team apply Machine Learning methods and tools to drive value from data through techniques such as customer segmentation, predictive modelling, and time-series methods. Our work delivers an in depth understanding of consumer behaviors and supports multi-channel targeting and personalization.
Our team enables our internal partners to better understand our customers and make data-driven decisions to drive customer lifetime value. We apply data science methods, build data driven products, and develop a deep understanding of what makes our business tick.
Be involved in a wide range of ML project activities: from requirements capturing through data modelling and processing; carrying out segmentation or building predictive models; performing deep insight; presenting findings to partners and building reusable data products through close collaboration with the relevant data engineering teams.
You should have a background in Data Science or ML, but also be passionate about turning large volumes of data into insight and have the blend of commercial and technical skills required to do so.
You will work with an outstanding team of Data Scientists to deliver analytical work, understand customer behaviors, and drive innovation in the use of data throughout PlayStation.
Primarily based in San Diego (San Mateo is optional), but a global role supporting colleagues in other offices in the US, Europe and Japan. Some global travel may be required, usually to Sony offices in London or Tokyo.
Skills required:
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong data management and modeling skills. You should be experienced in running EDA, performing feature engineering, developing models, and recommending a modeling approach based on evidence.
- Strong coding skills. You are expected to write production-quality code in both SQL and Python and be highly familiar with common ML libraries such as scikit-learn, pandas, and pyspark.
- An academic background that includes the fundamentals of Data Science/Machine Learning. You will probably have a Master's degree or PhD in a relevant technical or mathematical field.
- Experience applying Data Science techniques in a commercial environment, including supervised and unsupervised models, time-series forecasting, and other statistical analyses.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present detailed analyses to a broad audience range.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other business units to achieve common objectives.
- Organized self-starter, with drive and commitment; able to work with little supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience working on major cloud computing and data platforms (AWS, Databricks, GitHub, Snowflake, etc.).
- Experience working as a Data Scientist within an agile team.
- Experience in relevant industries (e.g., gaming, digital commerce, subscription services).
- Interest in gaming.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$122,200 — $183,200 USD
