Data Science Manager

Who we’re looking for:

As part of the product development organization, Skillz Data Science team is managing and optimizing core Skillz’s data machine learning platform, building and scaling to support various business functions and their machine learning models. We are looking for a Data Science Manager to grow and lead one of our Data Science teams.

In this role you will lead ML delivery as you partner closely with our Data Analysts, Data Engineering, and Product Management teams to serve various internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for a strong candidate that has outstanding communication skills, has proven ML design and implementation capabilities, and is focused on delivering impactful results. He/she will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and will enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

What You’ll Do:

• Recruit and hire a world class team of data scientists.
• Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of data scientists to build out our machine learning roadmap.
• Help set the strategy and direction of the Skillz ML platform.
• Define and deliver against department OKRs and KPIs.
• Partner with product owners and program managers to help plan releases and schedule development. Provide feedback and feasibility insights for proposed development features.
• Work with data engineering team to build out enterprise data infrastructure to support both business analytical needs and ML pipelines

Your Skillz:

Basic Qualifications

• Experience managing and delivering multiple ML projects end to end in an enterprise setting, including articulating the business use case; cleaning and exploring the data; and building, testing, and deploying predictive models
• Pragmatic thinker whose primary aim is to build effective solutions that positively impact the business
• Demonstrated experience delivering value to business stakeholders against aggressive goals using Data Science techniques
• Able to anticipate business problems and influence solutions through functional and non-functional requirements.
• R elevant experience in building large scale machine learning or deep learning models and/or systems
• Solid, applied understanding of both Machine Learning and Statistics along with a desire to deepen this understanding
• Working knowledge of Python and SQL
• Strong cross-functional, communication skills that help simplify and move complex problems forward with business partners
• 2+ years management experience leading a team of Data Scientists
• Excellent at breaking down complicated tasks and delegating the work to others while still ensuring quality
• Servant leader passionate about building and empowering teams
• M.S. in a quantitative field
• Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment

Bonus :

Experience in Marketing related ML space (e.g. UA optimization, Media Mix Model) is a plus.
