Summary:
Work with a team of talented educators, game designers, artists, animators, engineers, and producers to develop digital, adaptive reading and literacy learning experiences for children in grades Pre-K through 2. The Curriculum Specialist for My Reading Academy will work closely with game designers to develop fun and engaging games that teach specified learning objectives. The Curriculum Specialist for My Reading Academy will also work closely with other curriculum team members to research and review learning standards and trajectories in math and write curriculum plans for digital learning activities.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with curriculum team members to develop highly detailed knowledge maps that describe all of the concepts, principles, and skills needed for a learner to demonstrate mastery of a topic, to include the methodical unpacking of standards and the sequencing and correlating of objectives for all reading topics covered in grades
- PreK through 2 (e.g., identifying precursor, successor, and correlation relationships)
- Ensure application of current best-practice approaches in the teaching of reading and literacy concepts, principles, information and skills content and pedagogy
- Write clear, detailed, and precise specifications for the development of engaging learning activities research-based trajectories, supports, and scaffolds
- Ensure application of current best-practice approaches in the teaching of concepts, principles, information and skills content and pedagogy
- Develop and user test learning hypotheses based on research, learning science, and experience
- Review activities for developmental appropriateness and instructional integrity
- Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams including game designers, artists, engineers, and producers
- Work in an organized and flexible manner to meet established deadlines and evolving priorities
Required Qualifications:
- Have 5+ years of experience teaching reading in an elementary self-contained classroom at the PreK through 2nd grade level
- Have 2+ years of commercial curriculum development experience
- Have deep experience with, and understanding of, appropriately developed and scaffolded learning sequences in reading and literacy
- Be experienced in detailed curriculum planning for a large group of teachers/classrooms/students, including participation in the implementation and evaluation of the implemented curriculum
- Possess deep understanding of the ways in which children learn to read, as well as the challenges children experience when learning to read, especially as it pertains to reading and literacy content taught in grades PreK through 2
- Be an experienced and skilled critical thinker capable of deep analysis of concepts, principles, skills, and data used to drive curriculum development
- Have exemplary writing skills with an emphasis on clarity, organization, and word precision
- Be a skilled and flexible collaborator
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or above in elementary reading or literacy education or another related education field
- Experienced in designing/developing interactive educational programs or applications is a plus
- Have specialized training and/or experience as an elementary (PreK – 2nd grade) curriculum specialist in reading or literacy
