Creative Director

Discord is looking for a Creative Director to lead and uplevel our creative function, progress the way Discord shows up in the world, and bring new and innovative ways of engaging our customers to life. We're looking for someone who loves to inspire others, and find inspiration in the wonderfully diverse communities we welcome on Discord.

As Creative Director, you'll oversee the delivery of all essential creative projects from ideation through execution while keeping the team engaged and inspired. Hint: a strong meme game helps.

What you'll be doing

• Set, lead, and deliver on a creative vision for how Discord shows up in the world creatively across our customer touch points.
• Bring new, creative ideas and approaches to our marketing – including thinking through ways to deliver authentic and engaging experiences and innovative creative that delivers on our business, brand, and marketing goals.
• Lead and develop the teams responsible for our art direction, brand identity, illustration, tone and voice.
• Create a culture of collaboration, feedback, and openness as your team partners with Product Marketers, Brand Marketers, Channel Marketers, Product, Design and more to bring great work to life.
• Help define our employer brand and highlight what makes Discord a perfect place to do great design work

You’ll Thrive In This Role If…

• 10+ years experience in design, creative, or art direction
• 6+ years leading a creative team at an agency or in-house
• Excellent ability to explain your creative vision and inspire others, but also solicit and listen to feedback
• Passion to figure out “what’s next” in how inspiring creative delivers for customers
• You lead with passion and vision, and inspire others to deliver their best work while keeping them engaged and happy
• Portfolio that shows your creativity
• Experience with events/conferences, digital media, apparel, and advertising
• Expertise in leading and managing a group of cross-disciplinary teams
• Experience motivating and positively engaging staff and management cross functionally in ways that build trust and enthusiasm
• Experience hiring and scaling a team of varied skills for growth that's appropriate to the forecasted needs of the company

Bonus Points

• Familiar with 3D and 2D illustrators and the tools they use
• Familiar with Animators/Motion Designers and the tools they use
• Knowledge with reviewing and managing any outside agencies or freelancers
