Creative Director, Copywriting

Discord is looking for an experienced Creative Director - Copywriter. Art School, our in-house creative team, is made up of an experienced group of graphic designers, illustrators, animators, and copywriters. As a member of our creative leadership team, your knowledgeable eye will keep watch over all aspects of our creative output and ensure it is supported along its journey to a successful launch, while also helping our talented team grow in their careers. We are a collaborative team who focuses on creating high-quality experiences that grow Discord above everything else. You will report to the Chief Marketing Officer.
What you'll be doing
- Lead internal and external projects and campaigns from concept to execution
- Develop and refine all copywriting projects, guidelines, and direction
- Develop and refine our brand voice and tone along side the UI copywriting team and Communications team
- Complement our existing art direction and brand identity with your strategic creative vision
- Create a culture of critique and feedback that is healthy, supportive, and open
- Function as team advocate to guarantee a cohesive vision of Discord's identity in all audience facing respects
- Motivate and inspire our creative team to use their strengths without micromanaging
- Recruit and foster the career growth of our creative copywriters and work with our other Creative leadership to build overall creative excellence
- Work with the Product/Engineering and Marketing teams to be sure our creative pursuits reflect their goals and supporting their specific needs
- You'll help determine our employer brand and highlight what makes Discord a perfect place to do great design work
What you should have
- 3+ years of leading a creative team at an agency or in-house
- 8+ years experience in copywriting and creative direction
- Excellent ability to explain your creative vision and inspire others, but also solicit and listen to feedback
- You lead with passion and vision, and inspire others to achieve their best work while keeping them engaged and happy
- Portfolio that shows your creativity and strategic thinking
- You enjoy collaboration and are genuinely interested in furthering the careers of the members of your team
- Experience guiding high-profile projects that have a broad reach from creation to completion
- Experience with varying timelines and priorities while also maintaining team budgets and resources
- Experience with events/conferences, digital media, apparel, and advertising
- Experience hiring and scaling a team of varied skills for growth that's appropriate to the forecasted needs of the company

- Knowledge with initiating, reviewing, negotiating and managing any outside agencies or freelancers
- Familiar with 3D and 2D illustrators and the tools they use
- Familiar with Animators/Motion Designers and the tools they use
