Position Intro

Linden Lab is looking for an experienced payments attorney to support the company’s exciting growth as the leader in payments for virtual worlds and in-world economies.

Tilia Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Linden Research, Inc., and a licensed money transmitter in the U.S. Tilia Pay enables publishers of video games and virtual worlds to create in-world economies and monetize user interaction. Built from the ground up to be robust, flexible, and secure, Tilia Pay powers virtual economies of leading and cutting edge publishers with hundreds of millions of dollars in circulation.

Primary Functions

Provide mission-critical legal support for Tilia Pay, focusing on regulatory compliance for Tilia Inc. as a licensed money transmitter, and advise on payments initiatives, including product counseling and negotiating commercial agreements.

Responsibilities

Work closely with finance and compliance teams on matters pertaining to money transmitter licenses, including applying for licenses, renewing licenses, filing regulatory reports, reviewing policies and procedures, assisting in risk management.

Assist with coordination and preparation for state and federal regulatory exams.

Provide legal support for payments initiatives, including product counseling and negotiating commercial agreements.

Conduct legal, regulatory, and factual research.

Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Extensive knowledge of and experience with regulatory requirements of licensed money transmitters, including applying for licenses, renewals, filing reports. Experience with NMLS a plus.

Experience interacting with federal and state financial regulators and examiners.

Demonstrated experience counseling clients on payment products, including payment processing, stored value wallets, money transmission, prepaid access rules.

3+ years of relevant experience at a nationally recognized law firm, financial services company, or State banking department.

Ability to multi-task and re-order priorities.

Work well under pressure, independently, and on a team.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Flexibility and ability to proactively assume responsibility and adapt quickly to changes in a fast-paced environment.

Education

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

State bar membership in good standing.
