Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an experienced, motivated, and highly organized lawyer to join our in-house legal team as a close, trusted business partner, providing advice on a wide variety of legal issues.
Covid-19 Hiring Update:
We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.
What You’ll Do
- Negotiate and draft various transactional agreements, including talent, vendors, contractors, production, marketing and distribution agreements
- Provide risk assessment for production-related matters
- Counsel on a wide variety of legal matters touching development and production of entertainment matters, including guild/union and labor issues, marketing and promotions, product integrations, and music issues and licenses
- Assess legal risk and advise on legal issues and risks for marketing, sound, cinematics, publishing, and other teams across the business
- Work closely with and provide legal guidance to the business teams supporting them in developing business strategies
- Respond promptly to a wide range of legal requests from across the business
- Collaborate with other groups within the Activision Blizzard legal team, including for example international and employment lawyers
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate and admission to California State Bar in good standing or admission to another State Bar and willingness and qualifications to be “Registered In-House Counsel”
- 4-7 years of experience as a practicing lawyer at a reputable firm and/or in-house department
- Extensive experience and knowledge in drafting and negotiating entertainment and other commercial agreements, guild and union regulations (e.g. SAG-AFTRA), contract law and intellectual property rights (as applicable to the entertainment industry)
- Strategic and creative thinking, exercising excellent, balanced and practical business judgment
- Outstanding written and oral communications, with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across the business
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills
- Attention to detail
- Common sense, good judgment and desire to work hard in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible team player with the ability to independently handle multiple, diverse projects simultaneously and under deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify legal risks and creative solutions
- Capacity to understand Blizzard’s products, business and strategy and apply it to proactively managing legal risks
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic industry and where there is ambiguity and flex in the business and legal environment
- Strong ethics and influencing skills
