Engineering Manager, Solutions Games

The opportunity

The Unity Accelerate Solutions Games team is a group of highly skilled industry veterans with deep expertise in the Unity platform. Our mission is to help creators make the best gaming experiences they possibly can using Unity, and broadly extend the reach of their games into even more players. To do this, we provide a series of short-term and long-term consulting and development services that can range from one week to over a year in duration.

The European team is experiencing high growth, and we’re looking for an Engineering Leader to manage our regional teams of Software Developers and Technical Artists. You'll be tasked with managing project goals, ensuring the success of critical projects, contributing to product strategy, and growing your teams' technical skillset and careers. Your day-to-day work will also have you working closely with our Business Development teams to assess and field new business opportunities.

Due to the highly distributed nature of our team, the role may involve occasional travel to other Unity offices in order to meet your reports. Occasionally, you’ll also be required to travel to customers’ offices, primarily within Europe.

While most of our customers are in the games industry, we also provide services in other verticals such as automotive, aerospace, industrial, and film. If you're technically skilled, customer-focused, an excellent communicator, and have a background in real-time interactive applications, this job will suit you.

What you'll be doing

• Managing your leads and direct reports to grow their technical skills and careers, and ensure they have everything they need in order to be successful in their roles.
• Drive technical projects and provide leadership in a fast-paced environment
• Liaise with Project Managers and keep track of the status of ongoing long-term projects
• Champion engineering and operational excellence, adjusting processes for regular assessment and improvement
• Provide assistance to our Business Development teams, and engage with prospective customers who are interested in hiring our services

What we're looking for

• Good technical leadership and people management experience, ideally you should have managed a cross-functional engineering team,coordinating the entire software development lifecycle
• Previous hands-on experience as a developer building interactive RT3D applications (games, simulations, visual effects, etc.) using C++ or C#, with deep familiarity of the game development life cycle
• Proven experience leading technical projects and delivering on ambitious goals!
• Deep knowledge of engineering processes with large scale systems design experience
• Fluent in written and spoken English, and able to communicate ideas and technical knowledge clearly via written reports

You might also have

• Experience using Unity to develop games or commercial software would be a plus!
• Knowledge of rendering, graphics, networking, profiling, or low-level performance as it pertains to game development
• Experience in delivering training/technical talks and writing technical articles/documentation
