Contract Sr. Level Designer / Scripter (Seattle or San Francisco)

Position Intro
Linden Lab, a pioneer in the creation of virtual worlds, is poised for the public launch of “Sansar”, a social virtual reality platform that will democratize the creation of VR experiences. Linden Lab has been in business since 2003 and is best known for “Second Life”, the world’s largest user-generated economy.
The Sansar team has an immediate opening for a Contract Senior Level Designer / Scripter to create inspirational and compelling level designs in support of the Sansar Virtual World, story and quest systems. In addition, you will champion user generated content features in support of Sansar’s creator community. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team of experienced industry professionals with the latest virtual world technologies that support both Virtual Reality and Desktop gameplay.
This position may become regular full time.
Primary Functions
Under the direction of the Design Director, you will collaborate with a with a team of internal content developers to implement new worlds with characters, quests, objectives, rewards and interactivity.
This is a unique position working with unique technology; giving you the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of talented, fun people. You will partner with the Sansar Studios team and Design Director to create and assemble environments. You will collaborate with quest designers and Sansar Product Manager to craft and script (using C#) engaging multiplayer quests and interactive experiences for Sansar players. You will champion user generated content features that allows creators to craft the same amazing experiences in their own creations.
Responsibilities
- Create 3D Levels Designs based on requirements from the product and design team, using a combination of commercial (Maya, 3DS, or Blender) and proprietary (Sansar) level editing tools.
- Script and trigger interactivity with Sansar’s C# scripting language.
- Add interactivity, fun and engaging content in Sansar.
- Create virtual worlds that have quests, activities and often story driven, multiplayer experiences that delight players. Work with the Design Director & Art Director to understand project goals, priorities, and vision.
- Utilizing analytics, community feedback, user testing and team feedback, iterate on content to improve retention and engagement of Sansar players.
- Participate in team project planning, standups, product and design meetings. Collaborate with Sansar Studios and internal team members in a fast paced and demanding environment.
- Work with the engineering team to implement existing and new C# scripting behaviors and API considerations for both internal content development as well as helping to meet the needs of Sansar’s user generated content creator community.
- Design, develop, iterate, tune, and test levels and other gameplay spaces as well as level editing features & systems.
- Write and maintain design documentation for levels as well as the systems & features that contribute to their gameplay experience.
- Participate in playtests and translate collected feedback into action items.
- Identify and fix level-related gameplay bugs.

- 3D environment design and creation using Maya, 3DS, or Blender
- Script interactive gameplay using C#
- Craft level designs that are aesthetically amazing yet consider proper spacing, pacing and multiplayer layout flows consistent with best-in-class MMORPGs and other top virtual world products.
- You have a strong grasp of C# scripting for gameplay
- Great understanding of scale, proportion and basic art principles
- Keen sense of performance limitations (optimization, LODs, etc)
- Strong knowledge of multiplayer experiences and industry design standards
- Collaborative, self-motivated and effective time-management skills
- Ability to quickly adapt to new tools, technologies and development methodologies
- High quality bar and an obsessive attention to detail
- Excellent communicator who can take direction well and is willing to learn and occasionally teach
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic training and experience in games, art, design, digital, or interactive.
Experience
- At least one shipped scripting and level designs in a notable MMORPG and/or AAA title.
- 4+ years of game design experience in a level design and scripting role
- Able to provide a portfolio highlighting the best of previous shipped level designs and gameplay in MMORPG and/or AAA title(s).
Travel Requirements
This role may be located in San Francisco or Seattle office. Preferred to spend time in our SF headquarters during onboarding. If located in Seattle, additional periodic travel to SF office will be required.
