Communications Associate - Contract/Temporary

The Magic: The Gathering team at Wizards of the Coast is looking for a talented, entrepreneurial and detail-oriented Communications Associate with a drive to communicate with our fans, both new and existing. The best candidates will have a talent for communications planning, writing, and a strong knowledge of gaming fandom.

The Magic: The Gathering brand is a broad umbrella encompassing an array of studios, expressions, games, and audiences. A successful Communications Associate works across all of them to deliver clear, useful, and positive communications that impact community knowledge and sentiment. You’ll work closely with marketing to launch new products, with community teams to respond to fan concerns, and with the studios to effectively message their initiatives.

This individual should be adept at leading communications campaigns, working across teams, creating and leading messaging, and keeping plates spinning across brand communications.

This position is a contract-to-hire opportunity.

What You'll Do

• Brand Communications
  • Lead proactive and reactive communications efforts focused on the Magic franchise.
  • Create and implement communications plans in concert with marketing efforts.
  • Gathering information from key stakeholders.
  • Create content suited for communicating to fans and potential fans—articles, podcasts, streams, and more.
• Cross Functional Support and Coordination
  • Assist and advise other teams on communications matters.
  • Evaluate and coordinate communications requests from other teams.
  • Maintain and update messaging guidance, fact sheets, and protocols used by multiple teams
  • Coordinate with and provide guidance for regional teams.
• Communications Project Support
  • Pitch in on other Communications Team projects, including but not limited to: social media and community outreach initiatives, promotional or instructional videos or streaming, and event coordination or coverage

What You Bring

• Experience Creating and Casting these Spells
  • A minimum of 1-3 years professional communications experience required.
• BA or equivalent experience
• Exceptional writing skills.
• Rock solid organization, time management and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of media and cultural trends and enthusiasm for research.
• Proven ability to successfully plan and execute projects independently.
• Confidence meeting and interacting with many different kinds of professionals.
• Creativity, flexibility and positive attitude.
• Knowledge of or experience with Magic: the Gathering preferred but not required
• Knowledge of, interest in or experience with games, fantasy properties and passionate fan communities required
