Blizzard’s In-Game Cinematics team is growing, and we are seeking a talented Cinematic Designer to help bring our heroes’ worst nightmares to life on Diablo IV .
As a Cinematic Designer, you’ll be responsible for the setup, implementation, and maintenance of real-time cutscenes throughout the game. Using our proprietary tools, you’ll work together with folks from various teams to troubleshoot issues and maintain a high standard of quality across all cutscenes. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of how gameplay and cinematics work together to tell a cohesive story; a basic understanding of gameplay pacing and mechanics; and broad technical skills that complement an artistic eye.
COVID-19 Hiring Update: We've transitioned to a work-from-home model and we're continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person's circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with designers, artists, animators, and leads to help establish a seamless gameplay and story experience.
- Set up prototypes to help unify the director’s vision across all teams.
- Animate cameras and implement character animations during scene transitions.
- Work with leads and engineers to improve cinematic tools, processes, and workflow.
- Write and maintain documentation for our cinematics tools and pipelines.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day issues and ensure that all cinematic implementation is of high quality.
Requirements
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant cinematic design experience.
- Strong, technical understanding of game engine pipelines and constraints.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to proprietary tools.
- Familiarity with video editing tools (Adobe Premiere, Unreal Sequencer, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to give and receive feedback.
- Proactive with problem solving and sharing knowledge and new techniques with the rest of the team.
Pluses
- Experience with 3D software (Maya, Motionbuilder, 3DSMax, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Python or Lua.
- Critical eye for pacing, shot composition, character performance, and cinematography.
- Familiarity with the Diablo franchise or the dark fantasy genre.
- A passion for action-RPGs and dungeon crawler games.
