Chief Compliance Officer

We are seeking an experienced Chief Compliance Officer to join our team. The Chief Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, staying up-to-date on changes to laws and regulations, and developing compliance policies and procedures. This person will also be instrumental in helping to guide founders and their teams through the legal filing process necessary to offer securities and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. The deal candidate will possess a strong understanding or background in crypto and web3.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and drive adoption of compliance procedures and policies for the company's cryptocurrency operations, including its overlap with broker-dealer and investment adviser services
- Develop, prepare and submit all reporting compliant with regulatory requirements
- Review current processes and procedures to ensure compliance and make necessary adjustments
- Create a culture of compliance that is predictable, consistent and sustainable for future growth
- Lead special training, audits, and compliance risk management best practice
- Work closely with other teams to help build out and manage procedures and policies necessary to maintain compliance and efficiency
- Direct the development and implementation of correction plans for out of compliance situations
- Monitor results for successLiaise with other business teams to answer questions, identify risk and help mitigate it
- Monitor internal and external-facing materials and updates to ensure compliance
- Monitor internal know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) programs
- Research rules and regulations to implement best practices; and apply pragmatism to a complicated regulatory environment
- Stay current with upcoming regulatory changes and incorporate them into policies and procedures for ongoing compliance
- Maintain related regulatory records for accurate information on various procedures and approvals
- Direct associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow, organization
REQUIREMENTS
- Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- 10+ years of compliance experience within registered, institutional investment organizations
- Experience designing and implementing procedures and company policies in compliance with State and Federal regulations
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing high performing teams
- Skilled in researching, interpreting, and disseminating information on compliance regulations and laws
- Strong interest in securities law, corporate finance, and/or business
- FINRA Series 7 and 24 licenses preferred
- Experience working at a financial institution or within an established crypto exchanges is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detailComfortable working both independently and in a team environment, and under tight deadlines
- Organized, hardworking, and fast learning
- Self-starter who is able to roll up sleeves to get the job done
- Preferred:
- Master's degree in business, finance, or a related field
- Experience with broker-dealer or investment advisory compliance in the cryptocurrency space
- Strong knowledge of the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry, including current trends and emerging technologies
- Experience working with regulators, such as the SEC, CFTC, and FINRA
- In-depth knowledge of securities laws and regulations, including the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams
- Experience working in a high-growth, fast-paced startup environmentExcellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex compliance issues
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience managing compliance risk assessments and audits
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively
- Experience with compliance automation tools and software
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective compliance policies and procedures
- Professional certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA)
