Character Concept Artist (Mid-level to Senior)

Proletariat is seeking a Concept Artist with a Character Art focus for our work on World of Warcraft. In this role you will fill out the game’s world with new concepts for WoW’s characters, creatures, armor sets, and weapons. The ideal candidate is a skilled digital artist who creates appealing, immersive work in a hand-painted style, can render fresh concepts in exquisite production detail, is a patient and empathetic communicator, and loves taking initiative on projects.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with Art Directors and Leads, Designers, and other artists to shape ideas, consistent vision, and production-ready concept art
• Create concept art for characters, creatures, weapons, and armor that can be used by other artists with minimal back-and-forth
• Mentor and provide constructive feedback to more junior artists on the team
• Explore a wide variety of ideas that will push WoW's style and engage players’ curiosity
• Complete technically sound art within agreed-upon production schedules and with minimal direction.
• Communicate with Producers to maintain clear and consistent goals
• Incorporate feedback to iterate on project visual direction
• Provide feedback to 3D production artists working with project concept art.
• Be a strong force in upholding a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for collaboration, communication, and creativity, with an emphasis on the values of diversity and inclusion

Your Background:

• Extensive experience creating and delivering high quality character, creature, and armor/weapon concept art and illustration work for games, animation, or film
• Portfolio examples that show an understanding of traditional art principles including anatomy, shape language, color theory, and visual storytelling as these apply to characters
• Knowledge of technology, terminology, and techniques of game art development, including an awareness of design and programming considerations.
• Can be relied upon to quickly learn new processes and software as needed.
• Experience working in an iterative, agile environment.
• Self-directed, enthusiastic, positive, embraces critiques.
• Understands the audience and appreciates games.
