Character Artist

Overview

Roundhouse Studios is looking for a passionate Senior Character Artist to join and strengthen our talented development team in Madison, WI. In this role you are responsible for creating highly detailed 3D character and creature models for our AAA games. You will be part of our Character Art team and report to our Lead Character Artist. Candidates should be proficient in digitally sculpting human and animal anatomy. They should have a strong understanding of art pipelines for creating game and animation ready character assets.

Responsibilities

• Create and texture highly detailed 3D character models for AAA games
• Work with the Lead Character Artist and Concept team in the creation of visually stunning character assets
• Collaborate with animators and designers to bring visually compelling characters to life within design and technical limitations
• Contribute to the creative process through original ideas and inspiration
• Closely follow art style guides and design concepts
• Participate in critiquing your work and the work of other artists
• Work with the entire development team in an energetic and creative environment

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional industry experience as a character artist
• At least one AAA published game credited as a character artist
• In depth knowledge of character modeling as it relates to animation requirements
• Excellent sculpting skills in Zbrush or Mudbox
• Texturing skills in Substance Painter or similar software
• Experience in both hard-surface and organic modeling
• Strong knowledge of human, and animal anatomy
• Expertise in modeling drapery as it relates to costume creation
• Thorough understanding of character art pipelines and AAA game integration
• Experienced understanding of PBR workflows, including hair and skin shaders
• A strong understanding of weighting and rigging for animation
• Knowledge of industry software tools & pipelines (Zbrush, 3dsMax, Maya, Substance Painter/Designer and Photoshop)
• Team player with a strong work ethic and a collaborative attitude
• Passion for games and game development

Preferred Skills

• Traditional art skills including sculpting, sketching, illustration and painting
• Familiarity with hair and fur development and workflows
• Experience with hair and cloth simulation
• Understanding of costume design and construction
• Experience with Marvelous Designer
• Experience with UE4 Tech
