Job Description

The Character Artist will be responsible for modeling the characters required in the production of a game. The person will work in a collaborative spirit both within the team and with other departments, such as Concept Art, Animation, Rigging, Game Design, etc. to ensure the successful completion and top quality of the game;

Responsibilities
• Realize High Definition characters in their entirety: Modeling (Zbrush / Marvelous / Max or Maya), Texturing (Substance Painter / Photoshop ...), respecting as closely as possible the concept art.
• Read game design documentation to become familiar with character list and understand their actions and psychological aspects in order to create credible characters for the story.
• Create additional character assets such as hair, accessories, armour, weapons, etc.;
• Create Props and hard-surface elements for the purposes of the project.
• Work in close relation with the Artistic Director, the Lead Character Artist, the Technical Director, the Concept Artists, the Riggers and the Associate Producer to know the constraints of production, the artistic intentions and the deadlines to respect, you will provide primary models to programmers so they can integrate them into the engine and test first gameplay intentions.
• Touch-up textures after engine integration to optimize quality.
• Deliver clean and optimized low polygon models, and efficient UV layouts according to the project’s technical requirements;
• Think creatively, and search for relevant references from various sources, to solve daily artistic challenges;

Qualifications

• You have 4-5 years of minimum experience at a comparable position in video game production.
• Ability to work from reference materials such as photography or concept art;
• A good sense of anatomy, and proportions;
• Understanding of form, shape language and colour;
• Understanding of the technical constraints in game development and ability to apply them when creating characters;
• Solid knowledge of digital sculpting - in ZBrush or equivalent software;
• Solid knowledge of low-poly modelling and UV mapping - in 3DS Max or equivalent software;
• Excellent texturing skills in Substance Painter and/or Photoshop in a PBR workflow;
• Time management and ability to work within deadlines;
