The Benefits Manager, Canada will be responsible for Canadian benefit plan operations for approximately 350 employees, with a great deal of exposure to strategy and design as the company expands its presence in Canada. This is a highly visible role with the ability to impact offerings for the supplemental health and welfare plan, employee and family assistance program, retirement plans, and perks in all Canadian locations, currently operating in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia. To succeed in this role, this individual will need to build and maintain strong relationships and collaborate closely with HR Partners, Total Rewards team members, vendors, and consultants.
What You’ll Take On:
Manage Canadian benefit plan operations
- Administer supplemental health and welfare plan, employee and family assistance programs, RRSP & DPSP, and perks, including processing of enrolments, changes, and terminations
- Respond quickly and thoroughly to employees’ and HR Partners’ questions, correspondence, and complaints; resolve problems, identify root cause, and implement process improvements
- Interpret and communicate benefit plan provisions, policies, and procedures, and recommend changes when appropriate
- Manage broker, adviser, and other vendor relationships
- Work with benefits broker on health and welfare plan renewals, analyze plan financials, and provide reports to Finance as needed
- Support North American Leave Manager with management of Canadian time off and leave programs
- Coordinate webinars that are presented by vendors
- Support and train HR Partners on an ongoing basis
- Special projects such as the automation of supplemental health & welfare plan and RRSP/DPSP enrolment
Benefits Design
- Monitor trends in Canadian benefit plan offerings
- Conduct benefits program reviews
- Explore and implement new benefit plans and/or vendors, including assisting with RFPs, establishing efficient payroll and benefits enrolment processes, understanding taxation, and ensuring thorough testing is done in Workday
- Coordinate new and recurring vendor security reviews and reputational screenings
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial regulations and required filings
Communications
- Create and maintain Benefits Guide for employees
- Draft and deliver communications for new hire benefit orientations, training materials for HR Partners and employees, new program launches, and ad hoc presentations
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 6+ years of benefits administration experience with mid-size or large, multi-province benefit plans
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation or coursework
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is a plus
- Self-starter who effectively plans work, sets priorities and is able to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines; priorities can shift, so agility is essential
- Exceptional high-touch customer service and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience configuring benefit plans in HRIS and sending integration files to benefit plan vendors
- Knowledge of federal and provincial regulations, filings, and compliance requirements related to employee benefit programs, time off, and leaves
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
- High level of proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HRIS; Workday experience is a plus
- Solid project management experience
- Ability to communicate in French is a plus
