Backend Software Engineer Intern
Job Summary
At Maxis, we're looking for a software engineer intern to work on cloud web services to help us bring new features to life. You will work with an experienced team that has collectively built Maxis games for more than two decades. You will work with backend and client engineers, producers, and designers to prototype and ship features that expand the gameplay possibilities of The Sims. You will report to a Development Director for the backend services team.
As a Backend Software Engineer Intern at Maxis, you will
- Help us develop responsive, resilient, massively scalable, and globally available web services that support millions of Sims players
- Learn a variety of technologies from industry experts
- Apply troubleshooting and problem solving techniques to address application, network, and server-level problems
- Help us design and implement APIs and protocols that are consistent, formalized, and testable
- Help us maintain a suite of automated tests that validate the correctness of backend services
- Participate in the upkeep and maintenance of live services
Requirements
- You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program and are slated to graduate after May 2024
- You must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis during the 12-week internship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
Qualifications
- You have an interest in working on a variety of new and old technologies
- You have a desire to work with client engineers and designers to iteratively add features and improve APIs
- You're willing to iterate quickly and develop multiple short-lived prototypes
Pluses
- You've worked with version control systems like git
- You've worked with Cloud Services, such as Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform
- You've worked with databases, such as MySQL
- You've worked with Python, Java, C++, or Kotlin
- You've worked with Linux and Windows
