Backend Engineering Manager

Rooster Teeth is looking for an Engineering Manager to partner with our product team and lead our backend engineering team. The ideal candidate will understand servant leadership, and service oriented architecture design. You will be building a platform that users both love and expect high quality out of. Rooster Teeth has a team of skilled backend engineers who build services that power our web and mobile stacks. This means high uptime and fast. The Rooster Teeth stack is built on Ruby and golang, and runs in AWS. You should be an expert in one or both of these languages, have an architect level skill set, and have a solid understanding of AWS services.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of engineers working across servicesHave a solid understanding of SCRUM / Agile methodologies and ability to lead daily standups
• Be a servant leader and work hard for those who work for you
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and assistance to the team, to build scalable, performant and reliable applications that operates 24/7
• Make appropriate product and business trade-offs and give technology direction that leads to measurable outcomes
• Execute to success through diligent planning, attention to detail, effective delegation and efficient decision-making
• Facilitate regular team stand-ups, resource planning, and code reviews
• Define and run an architecture review processRecruit, hire, retain, and mentor engineering talent
• Assist in discussions and eventually own 3rd party contractsBe a culture champion on the team and across the company

Qualifications:

• 8+ years in software design and development, 2+ years managing people
• 12 applications and containerization
• An ownership mindset - you own the services from design to deployment and beyond
• Leadership - you are a multiplier of engineering teams and a trusted partner for business and product leads
• An understanding and passion for testing, architecture, and system design
• An excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms
• Experience with Agile methodologies - specifically with SCRUM and SDLC
• Understanding and experience with deploying products at scale
• Strong people management skills, including the ability to coach engineers at all levels - above and below you
