Audio Director

Survios currently has an opening for a talented Audio Director to lead our amazing Audio team!
As Survios’ Audio Director, you will establish and execute the audio vision. You will represent and defend the vision by keeping close contact with all other directors and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in audio design and production, proficiency in sound design, music production, and voiceover production. Additionally, they should be skilled at managing, developing, and mentoring audio staff.
This candidate should have a passion for video games, with an overwhelming drive to create a world-class audio experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the audio vision and strategy to establish creative and technical audio goals based on the creative direction, and communicate how the audio goals support the product's mission to studio leadership, team members and external partners.
- Establish and direct the audio aesthetic of the project and collaborate with the audio team and across disciplines to clearly define and articulate goals.
- Plan, direct and participate in the creation and implementation of audio assets for all projects and maintain the highest level of quality for all audio assets.
- Collaborate closely with the project’s lead sound designer and sound designers to define an effective audio style and execution based on the creative direction of the project.
- Oversee the design and implementation of all audio for the project, and assist in developing integration tools for proprietary pipelines, integration processes and audio tooling, working in close collaboration with the lead sound designer and audio programmers to ensure proper integration.
- Advocate for audio technologies that will create the most compelling and immersive audio experience for players.
- Collaborate with lead sound designer and audio programmers to identify, innovate and adapt to drive new audio features by staying on the cutting edge of the latest audio industry developments.
- Collaborate with other departments (design, animation, VFX and engineering) to develop and define audio pipelines and systems and act as an expert in proprietary pipelines and integration processes.
- Work closely with studio leadership, development leads and production personnel to clearly define and articulate audio goals.
- Collaborate, communicate and share knowledge and experiences with other discipline department heads and the wider team in the development of a holistic game vision.
- Work in collaboration with studio leadership, production and development teams to establish priorities and feasibility of deliverables and adjust expectations as needed.
- Identify asset needs and create opportunities for greater efficiency in process and workflow
- Manage internal audio team, external vendors and schedules.
- Maintain and oversee audio outsourcing services (Foley, Music, VO, Cinematics, etc.).
- Work closely with audio producer to manage audio schedules and budgets for all projects.
- Organize and conduct field recording sessions with the audio team to expand the internal sound library.
- Act as visionary and mentor in managing the audio team’s performance, and set goals and milestones for individual team members.
- Coach team members to foster their artistic and technical development, providing constructive feedback and help shape their career path progression and training.
- Foster the development of a culture of inclusivity and learning through knowledge sharing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in music or audio or professional training in audio.
- 8+ years experience in audio production for video games.
- 4+ years of experience in either an audio lead or audio director capacity.
- Worked on two or more published titles (AAA is a plus) at a lead or director level of responsibility.
- Fluent in interactive audio and post production techniques.
- Expert command of sound design & mixing techniques, processes and tools.
- Experience managing multiple projects and resources between projects.
- Proven team leadership and effective communication skills across all disciplines and departments with a team-focussed mindset.
- Ability to push the envelope of game audio with a clear understanding of emotion and tension in storytelling and be able to tell a story through sound.
- Experience working effectively with contractors, including composers, casting directors, and actors.
- Experience with outsourcing, scheduling and budgeting.
- Possesses exceptional technical audio skills and a background in interactive audio and post production techniques.
- In-Depth knowledge of authoring techniques within middleware (Wwise or FMOD, etc.).
- A grasp of logic and simple scripting methods for interactive audio implementation within a game engine (Unity, Unreal or proprietary engines).
- Strong knowledge of next-generation console audio hardware, game engine technologies, current audio engines and audio middleware solutions, and performance optimization.
- Experience creating audio workflows and pipelines and being able to adapt and understand workflow of other departments (Animation, Engineering, AI, UI, etc.).
- Stays informed on current market trends and emerging audio techniques and advances.
- A strong passion for playing and making video games, especially first person shooters.
Pluses:
- Experience with VR/AR development.
- Extensive game audio experience on current gen hardware.
- Experience mixing in 5.1, 7.1 and Atmos surround for games and linear media.
- Some programming, scripting, or UE5 Blueprint experience.
- Proficiency in Reaper and Sound Forge.
- Extensive musical knowledge as a musician and/or composer.
