Job Description
Summary
The audio artist will design, produce and mix all of the sounds (soundscapes and SFX) used to create and promote a video game.
Responsibilities
The main and routine tasks of the audio artist are to:
- Meet project needs in terms of artistic sound creation;
- Reporting to the audio director, take part in producing the audio direction (SFX, soundscapes, etc);
- If requested by the audio director, draft the artistic direction section of the sound design document (i.e. determine the style (realistic, cartoon, etc.) for the SFX and soundscapes);
- Create sound references (SFX, soundscapes) that represent the game’s sound direction;
- Mix the game’s audio assets;
- Supervise freelance sound designers;
- Validate the results of the sound studio’s order and request adjustments whenever necessary;
- Validate the foley session recordings with the sound technician and foley artist for the effects that will be used to produce the SFX and soundscapes;
- Teach the sound production process to audio designers and other project stakeholders;
- Advise audio designers in the creation of their SFX and soundscape orders;
- When requested by the audio director, advise audio designers in their work (implementation and integration) and help integrate audio components (SFX, soundscapes) into the game;
- Assess project needs with regards to the SFX libraries and advise the director of the sound studio;
- Take part in the acquisition of the sound sources required for the project (onomatopoeia, sound effects, etc.) and ensure that the intonations, intentions and projects are credible with regards to the scenario;
- Help create promotional material in collaboration with Ubik, the sound studio and the marketing group;
- Be aware of all of the aspects of the game (game design, animation, environment, 3D objects, level design, AI, scenario, etc) to understand project needs as they relate to sound;
- Carry out all other related tasks.
Training
Technical training in computer-assisted sound design, music or equivalent.
Relevant Experience
Five years’ experience in sound design (video games, film, television, advertizing).

- Extensive knowledge of audio production tools (Pro Tools);
- Bilingualism (French-English) mandatory;
- Solid knowledge of mixing (2.0 + 5.1).
