Associate Writer (Contract)

NCSOFT is seeking a Contract Creative Writer to write and manage westernizing updates for a major AAA MMORPG. If you’re passionate about videogames, if you can weave complex characters from a couple of bullet points, and if you’re a strong communicator with solid experience behind you, then we would love to hear from you!
To maintain safe social distancing, the Creative Writer position is a remote work from home position with the possibility of working in the office later in the year. Because of the collaborative, team-based nature of our work, the ability to work full time at our Orange County office during normal office hours is strongly preferred.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Ensure that all text meets our high internal quality standards
- Proactively communicate with each member of the team to ensure consistency of tone and content of the game
- Collaborate around, and give feedback too, brand and marketing vision
- Help create and maintain a database of terms
- Assist with the writing of other NCSOFT games when necessary
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- A minimum of 2 years’ creative writing experience in a professional setting
- 1+ years of professional game development work experience, with at least 1 published piece (videogame, book, film, etc.) to your name
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Flexible working ability within tight deadlines, technical limitations, and/or established story constraints
- Knowledge and understanding of RPGs and a strong interest in localization of narrative
- Positive attitude toward constructive criticism and collaborative creative work
- Skilled with basic software programs (MS Office, etc.) and the ability to learn new ones quickly
- Ability to question the given and think outside the box
- Meticulous eye for detail and a solid foundation of linguistic excellence
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of prior creative writing experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of MS office, HTML and XML formats
- In-depth understanding of industry standard software localization processes
- Critical eye for error, and ruthless editing abilities
PLUSES!
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English or a related field
- Familiarity with html or xml
- Familiarity with industry localization process and software such as memoQ
- Experience with software bug reporting/fixing process, or project tracking software such as JIRA and Confluence
- Familiarity with Asian languages and cultures, especially Korea
This is a 2 month contract position.
