Associate In House Counsel

Maximum Games is looking for a clever, solutions-oriented counsel to join our team.

This is also a highly administrative position requiring contract management skills and strong organizational prowess.
In this role, reporting to the Group CFO, you will partner closely with our C-Suite, Business Development Team, People Team and global outside counsels to manage a wide variety of business needs including IP licensing agreements, employment compliance and outside service agreements for Maximum Entertainment’s rapidly expanding global business. Creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance and process management will be crucial to this role, and you will have an opportunity to make a big impact in our organization.
This role is full time, hybrid (3 days a week on-site), based out of Walnut Creek, California at Maximum Games Headquarters.
In this role, you will:
- Draft and review business, IP, outside service and employment contracts for all business functions, organize and perform administrative functions for contracts and other legal documents
- Assisting in negotiations for IP licensing and other business agreements
- Creating an internal contract management database and processes around contract maintenance, including the change management process across global entities
- Collaborate with the rest of the Maximum Entertainment outside counsel and our partners to handle the varied legal questions that arise when you are part of a global team helping operate a data-driven, consumer-facing, publicly listed video game publisher/studio
- Partner with outside counsels on global employment matters to shape internal global employment and HR compliance (employment agreements, policies, day-to-day operations, performance management, terminations)
- Assist with Maximum Entertainment’ general corporate legal activities, including ethics, litigation, and risk management, etc.
Ideally, you have:
- 5+ years of experience directly related to this role, including at a law firm, in-house, and/or other relevant roles.
- Law degree (e.g., JD or equivalent).
- High integrity and are intellectually-curious
- Consistent demonstration of timely and responsive client service
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills, including the ability to prioritize among multiple projects while driving them to timely completion
- Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting, and hard-working) in generating new and innovative solutions to legal matters
- Demonstrated solution-oriented business and legal judgment
- Excellent communicator with ability to break down complex legal jargon into easy-to-understand and practical advice
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Sense of humor a plus
The expected starting salary range for this role is $120,000-140,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
