Associate Human Resource Generalist
Role and Responsibilities
Blind Squirrel Games (BSG) is seeking an Associate Human Resource Generalist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting both human resources and recruiting initiatives, ensuring that the organization attracts and retains top talent. Additionally, you will extend your support across various departments as needed, contributing to the smooth functioning and growth of the company.
Guided by the Director of Human Resources, you will collaborate with other talented departments to deliver key HR services, including recruiting, employee development, benefits administration, and compliance. Your efforts will help maintain a positive, efficient, and compliant work environment, enabling each department to stay focused on their core objectives and promoting overall organizational success.
The ideal candidate for this role has experience supporting talent acquisition and employee development for AAA games and excels in a fast-paced office setting. Proficient in using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), such as Jobvite, they effectively manage recruiting processes and ensure a smooth onboarding experience. A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a strong commitment to meeting project timelines and expectations are essential for success in this position.
This position requires the Associate Human Resource Generalist to work onsite at our Irvine, CA, location.
The salary range being considered for this role is $60,000-$70,000. The specified salary range pertains to Southern California, and the actual amounts may differ based on experience, performance, and location. These salary ranges do not apply to locations outside the United States.
Responsibilities
- Greet, welcome, and direct guests and studio visitors
- Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls
- Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable
- Provide accurate information in-person and via phone/email
- Receive, sort, scan and distribute daily mail and distribute all deliveries
- Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk (distributing NDAs, etc)
- Order office and kitchen supplies and keep studio inventory of stock
- Arrange travel and accommodations for the studio
- Keep updated records of office expenses and costs
- Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing and scanning
- Organize and execute company social events, including all-hands meetings, holiday parties, and leadership retreats.
- Contribute to executing the Human Resource Strategic Plan.
- Compile reports and spreadsheets for any HR metrics requested by HR Director
- Participate in recruitment, including resume screening and scheduling interviews.
- Maintain current HR files and databases
- Ensure background and reference checks are completed
- Prepare new employee files
- Conduct onboarding to orient new employees to the organization.
- Serve as the point person for all new employee questions
- Support the HR Director with the annual salary adjustment process.
- Lead the annual 360 performance review process under the guidance of the HR Director.
- Assist with annual company-wide skills assessments.
- Complete the EEO-1 Report and CA Pay Data Report annually
- Help coordinate benefit administration and open enrollment process
- Help implement annual engagement surveys and analyze results
- Draft process documentation and company policies.
- Support compliance with labor laws and company policies
- Collaborate with the Finance and Production Departments regarding timecards, PTO and job codes
- Coordinate employee mandatory employee training sessions and tracks participation
- Assist in and helps prepare for industry events as needed (conventions, job fairs, etc.)
- Facilitate the FMLA and general leave process for the studio
- Manager termination paperwork and coordinating exit interviews
- Uphold employee confidence and confidentiality
- Take on additional relevant duties and responsibilities as needed to support company or department goals.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or relevant field
- 3+ years’ experience in a human resources role
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems (e.g., Jobvite)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with payroll systems, such as Paychex
- Background in managing insurance programs (medical, dental, vision, FSA, etc.)
- Knowledge of employee benefits, including 401K, FMLA, and PTO
- Exposure of local, state, and federal laws, especially tax filing
- Experience in conducting background checks
- Skilled in onboarding and training new employees
- Strong scheduling and calendar management abilities
- Experience working with vendors and coordinating maintenance
- Ability to book travel arrangements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational capabilities
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong public speaking skills
Pluses
- Previous experience working within the video game industry
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification
