What We’re Looking For:
We are currently seeking an Associate Director of Technical Accounting to join Skillz and play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining the integrity of our financial statements. The Associate Director of Technical Accounting will be responsible for providing Technical Accounting Expertise, Enhancing SOX controls, Ensuring Compliance, Minimizing Audit hours, and providing thought leadership. The ideal candidate will have worked in a successful high-growth company and can bring such experiences to Skillz as we continue to define the future of esports and mobile gaming. The role reports to the company’s Controller and Global Head of Accounting.
What You Will Do :
- Work directly with senior accounting leaders to manage the company’s operational accounting functions, including journal entries, month-end checklist, account reconciliations, etc.
- Functional assessment & planning for operational effectiveness: assess current accounting policies and recommend new ones. Achieved by the creation of an accounting policy assessment, which documents current policies (assesses their effectiveness) and lists missing policies (rank in order of importance).
- Timley SEC filings: Update the accounting policy section of the 10 Q/K timely and accurately (based on the checklist)
- Timley SEC filings: Stay up to date on accounting guidance and disclosure requirements. Demonstrated by updating the new accounting pronouncement sections of the 10Q/10K.
- Risk mitigation and increased efficiency: Complete or correct 3 accounting policies (ranked 1-3 on assessment doc) and recommend implementation plan.
- Risk mitigation: Review & evaluate current SOX controls in revenue and COS areas. Achieved by the implementation of remediation plan for existing material weaknesses
- Risk mitigation and increased efficiency: Complete or correct 5 accounting policies (ranked 4-8 on assessment doc) and recommend implementation plan.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting experience +)
- Strong technical accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP, SEC, SOX, ASC 606, ASC 842
- CPA
- Experience with SEC Filings (providing 10Q/10K support)
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute swiftly with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in managing a team; ability to build and manage high performing team members
- Broad range of capabilities, including being an executor who can communicate problems and their solutions
- Ability to identify process improvements, propose effective solutions and execute efficiently
- Provide support and build relationships with internal stakeholders (management, Legal, FP&A) and external auditors
