Our Character Modeling department is looking for a highly motivated Associate Artist to help the Outsource group as we expand scope on Overwatch 2.
This role will have a large focus on the integration of character models being produced by our external third-party vendors. This is an ideal job for someone who is a new graduate and has familiarity in game engine polygonal modeling and a basic understanding of rigging. In addition, as a background task we will have you create art assets for the game, dependent on time, your background, and skill level. It’s a great opportunity to learn how the Blizzard modelers and technical artists approach their craft while also working with them to improve process, workflows and tool sets.

Responsibilities
- Implementation of 3rd party vendor assets in game engine, including troubleshooting and model or texture polish when necessary.
- Create, clean-up and maintain character models for real time game assets.
- Work with lead and senior artists to ensure timely completion of art assets at the desired quality bar.
- Work closely with Character Art Supervisors to populate the world of Overwatch with its incredible heroes
- Help implement Level of Detail (LOD) models into the game and be capable of identifying and fixing any issues that come up.
- Help moving source file to\from engine and vendors
- Perform simple weapon rigging and implement both blockout and final models into the game engine
- Understand how PBR shader\textures are setup and help make fixes when needed
- Keep characters in budget and help optimize models\textures when needed
- Help identify areas of pipeline improvement and collaborate with the team to make it happen
Requirements
- Previous experience with current commercial game editors such as Unity/Unreal.
- Understanding of polygonal modeling and texturing using Maya and Photoshop software packages.
- Basic knowledge of character rigging
- Self-motivation and a great team-player attitude
- Able to work creatively as part of a large or small group
- Understanding of the visual style of Blizzard games and a passion to push it to the next level
- Display solid communication skills and prioritization to keep the team moving smoothly
- A passion for video games
Pluses
- Industry experience in character modeling and game development in some capacity.
- Have shipped an PC or console title as a character artist, or technical artist
