Associate Art Director (Narrative Adventure)

We are looking for a Associate Art Director to join us on a dark, story-driven next generation 'Narrative Adventure' with genre defining goals.
This huge, highly ambitious partnership project takes atmosphere, storytelling, player agency and narrative firmly into ground-breaking territory on next-generation hardware technologies with a heavy focus on art, animation, audio and delivering unique character performances to heighten player presence and immersion to new levels.
We are looking for someone who brings fantastic ideas and is constantly looking for what could make good ideas great.
You will have an avid interest in all thing’s art, from carpet design to outlandish creature sculpture. You have the ability to think how a piece of music changes the entire feel of a piece of art in a game and you possess an ability to think outside of the obvious.
Requirements
- A history of game art production experiences, including having worked from initial concept to final product at Associate Art director level previously or currently.
- A thorough understanding of art outsourcing pipelines, capacities and with an understanding of technical constraints and limitations within modern game engines.
- Strong ability in writing forward facing documentation and applying it in a development setting.
- Proven proficiency and a portfolio demonstrating the ability to direct an art team.
- Strong communication skills and a calming confident presence on the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Art Director by providing artistic leadership and art team leadership to drive the overall vision of the project.
- A mentor for the artists and lead artists coaching them towards personal improvement in pursuit of an award winning AAA game.
- Support the art director and discipline leads in building a learning environment within the art team and implement processes of artistic research.
- Nourish the artistic vision by looking for sources of inspiration within and out with the video game industry.
- Participate in controlling the unification of all visual parts: models, characters, atmosphere etc …
- Stay in touch with the work of the art team and ensure they reach the expected artistic quality
- Contribute to the definition of milestone goals in partnership with the Art Director.
- Work with key project stakeholders
- Work hand in glove with the Art Development Manager and the Art Director to assure the art team is functioning at the highest level.
