Associate Director of Narrative Properties

Gearbox Properties is looking for an Associate Director of Narrative Properties to join our team! Gearbox Properties supports the vision of Gearbox Entertainment by guiding the collective vision, the creation growth, and the strategy of our creative universes, characters and products across our transmedia efforts. The Properties team act as the custodians and curators for all Gearbox intellectual properties. It is our mission to explore the creation of new IPs, expand on established IPs, leverage transmedia opportunities to expand and deepen our audience, and archive IP knowledge into canonical and shareable resources.

Team/Position Overview

The Associate Director of Narrative Properties manages writers at Gearbox across multiple projects and IPs, while collaborating with other Directors, Project Leads, and Stakeholders across the studio to develop exciting stories for a worldwide audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all company IPs and an intimate knowledge of select IPs in order to advise and help steer franchise strategy and development.
  • Work with Managing Director of Narrative Properties to oversee, manage, and guide a group of talented writers in the creation of compelling stories for games and other media.
  • Help to interview, hire, onboard, train, and mentor writers at all levels and foster a healthy writer's room environment where work is done to creative standards.
  • Collaborate with multiple project teams to help create and expand stories, and to assure that all writing needs are met for the project, including analyzing and estimating writing needs for projects with a wide variety of scope.
  • Assist and influence development of story and lore expansion beyond games into other transmedia ventures.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and set the standards for writing quality, staffing strategies, tools, systems, and pipelines.
  • When necessary, write and edit content for Gearbox Entertainment games and other projects.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of leadership in creative or technical industry positions
  • Outstanding leadership skills of creative team and in collaboration with other passionate creative leads and personalities across many roles, levels, and projects
  • Outstanding skills in long-term strategic creative development
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Strong organization skills related to task assessment, estimation, and delegation
  • Strong ability to manage and to move between multiple concurrent projects with shifting priority, focus, and need
