The Lead Technical Artist will report to their project’s Technical Art Director.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Tech Art team and ensure the quality of their work is at a high level.
- Work closely with the Tech Art Director and Development Director to assess workloads, set priorities and assign tasks for the Tech Art team.
- Collaborate with other leads to ensure good communication and solid working relationships between all development partners.
- Maintain, improve, and document our current set of Art tools and workflows.
- Ensure Art assets follow the project's quality and technical standards by direct guidance and automated validation processes.
- Work closely with Engineers, Artists, and Designers to pinpoint game performance and memory usage issues.
- Troubleshoot production issues and help fix Art related bugs as they occur.
- Keep up with the latest trends and technical tools for developing content and inspire others through knowledge sharing.
- Develop, motivate, and mentor team members. Create opportunities for new challenges and growth.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of games industry Tech Artist experience. Prior team leadership experience on a AAA game team is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable ability to lead by example, in both quality of work and professional conduct.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CG fundamentals: modeling, texturing/shading/surfacing, rigging, animation, lighting, rendering, post-processing.
- In depth expertise on relevant 3D and 2D software packages (such as Maya, Substance, Photoshop, and Zbrush.)
- Strong understanding of game engines and art integration as well as their corresponding technical constraints.
- Strong understanding of hardware platform capabilities, including memory, performance, and feature support.
- Strong understanding of content creation pipelines and how to optimize them.
- Strong hands-on ability in at least one Tech Art specialist area (such as Tools, Pipelines, Rendering, Memory & Performance Management, Proceduralism)
- Ability to both receive and deliver constructive criticism.
- A strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
- A positive, solution-oriented attitude. Ability to inspire positivity within their team and trust with other departments.
- Strong people skills. Empathy for addressing the problems of others, respect for others’ time.
