Art Director

Are you an experienced and passionate visual artist who can help shape an artistic direction with an innovative team of developers as they build the next great game experiences of the future? Can you help us drive the artistic direction of our projects, while building out a world-class team of artists to work alongside you?

Velan Studios, a discovery driven independent game developer, is looking for a technical art director, driven to innovate and the leadership qualities to direct, mentor and grow a AAA console development team.

In this role you’ll initially be working in a small prototype team with graphics & gameplay programmers, designers, artists and animators to create eye-opening, visually captivating experiences. You will help define the look and feel of early-stage prototypes and experiment with different visual styles. Working as part of a small core team of veteran developers on innovative new prototypes means you’ve got to be versatile and highly skilled. As the projects move from early stages to production, you’ll help expand and lead the art team that executes on the project.

Requirements

• 5+ years of game industry experience on console and/or PC platforms.
• Solid fundamentals: Composition, Light & Color, Perspective etc.
• Expert in 3D Studio Max or Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, ZBrush
• Knowledge & direct experience in modern lighting and post process rendering techniques (GI, deferred, ray tracing)
• Experience working in Unreal, Unity or other AAA engines
• Prior Lead or Sub-Lead experience on mid-sized or large console/PC development project.

Big Pluses

• Experience with Algorithmic Substance, ShaderForge or similar tool
• Significant Unreal Engine 4 experience
• Experience with physically based rendering
