Art Director

Welcome to Striking Distance Studios!

Striking Distance Studios continues to grow. We are looking for talented developers with experience working on large-scale, live service games to join us in our San Ramon studio.

What we need:

We’re looking for a highly skilled Art Director who will embrace our culture and share his/her hard earned expertise to create inspirational art and to guide the artistic vision of the developers they work with. We’re picturing someone who is passionate about recognizing the talent in those around them, in fostering cohesiveness across disciplines.

Responsibilities:

• Provide inspiration for the development team through your creative artistic vision and exceptional leadership.
• Art direct and give clear, constructive critiques.
• Maintain a high quality bar and culture of excellence in art and design.
• Work closely with leads of other departments to create schedules and maintain game design vision
• Collaborates with leadership to make recommendations and decisions concerning all artwork
• Ensure cohesiveness of look/feel and overall vision throughout the game. Help establish mood through artistic vision and direction.
• Create style guides, color keys, art bibles, etc. as needed.
• Provides day to day artistic feedback and mentorship of individual contributors and leads

Qualifications:

• Significant previous experience as an Art Director in video games (5+ years’ experience preferred.)
• Exceptional ability to establish, effectively communicate, and maintain artistic vision for game.
• Ability to direct the creation of everything from in-game assets to marketing art, and maintain cohesive look and feel throughout.
• Experience working with outsourcing companies
• Strong ability to work with direct and external partners
• Strong sense of design and function for fictional/sci-fi elements such as weapons and vehicles.
• Background in art direction of and/or creation of vehicles, hard surface assets, and characters strongly preferred.
• Passion for storytelling and character development.
• Exceptional leadership skills.
• Passion for making and playing games.
• Strong understanding of 3D.
• Experience working within a game engine and implementing 3D work into engine preferred.
• Shipped AAA game(s) a plus.
• Portfolio of work which shows quality, taste, a high quality bar, and compelling vision.
