Art Department Director

Come join Osmo on a mission to change the way kids play. We’re a growing, passionate company with much to accomplish. Osmo is looking for an outstanding Art Department Director to join our Game team.
In this role, you will be responsible for logistical problem solving, cross departmental alignment, planning, and resourcing. The Art Department Director will supervise across the studio on all projects, working with Art and Design leads and teams. This position will require exceptional communication skills, extensive art pipeline knowledge, ability to mediate, and leadership. This role will also look after the well-being of all project art teams.
As an Art Department Director, you will be collaborating with artists, producers, designers, and engineers to create groundbreaking products that are recognized worldwide for its innovation in technology for kids.
What you'll do:
- Management and guidance which includes career growth, goal-setting and feedback.
- Manage, mentor, and grow multidisciplinary teams of art leads and artists who are chartered with defining the visual targets and the execution of art and design at Osmo
- Understanding and empowerment of individual team members
- Connect, build relationships, and collaborate with cross functional teams to understand business needs and drive mutual vision and goals
- Effectively influence leaders and key partners to gain alignment
- Carefully monitor project feasibility and resource requirements
- Recruit and hire talented contributors
- Collaborate with a cross functional team of designers, marketers, and engineers.
- Engage with PMs, Designers and Engineer & Art Leads to improve art pipelines
- Proactively scope and forecast production resource needs, plan and prioritize based on impact, risk, and effort
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- 8+ years of experience as an art manager or art director within game pipelines
- Portfolio providing samples of Art direction/feedback that illustrates an understanding of game development
- Experience as a Artist Lead/ or Art Director with ability to guide and direct creative teams quickly and effectively
- Strong time management with a proven ability to focus on priorities, juggle multiple tasks and work in a fast paced environment
- Understanding of content production pipelines - especially for 2d art and illustrations
- Communication, presentation and diplomatic skills
- Confident and capable self-starter; can operate and lead with limited supervisionInterest for empowering teams and cultivating career growth
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to quickly adapt to change and work effectively under pressure.
- Good understanding of artist tools and basic tracking software: Photoshop, Spine, Jira, Basecamp, Google Workspace
- Experience working with global teams and being mindful of cultural nuances
- Pluses: Experience with AR, Spine, Unity or previous work within the educational space
